There is far too much focus on the QB issue..
Saban found a scheme to stop our pass rush and Lanning and Kirby failed to make necessary adjustments until late in the third quarter.
Our defensive secondary was completely out of sync and suffered numerous entirely blown coverages from the beginning of the second quarter on.
On offense, our receivers mostly failed to gain separation.
Our 0-line missed assignments on crucial plays and had Bennett running for his life, forcing the ball, or getting sacked.
On the QB front, both Stetson and JT appear to be competent QB’s, but neither has demonstrated that they are game changing players, and they are both handicapped by a receiver room that is simply not elite at this point.
Given all of this, can Georgia win the NC? Yes, absolutely they can, but the coaches and players both need to step up. Go Dawgs!
Just like Todd Monken is his only QB's coach, I guess they didnt fly in his personal QB coach either...give me a break! Just because you have heard of it doesnt mean it isn't true. Nobody believed you when you reported first that Bennett was getting the start over a supposed healthy JT and Beck, but he did. Just saying!
The nonsense argument about Daniels' performance against Cincinnati is silly because it discounts one very important thing: Cincinnati was a better team than anyone Bennett face this year other than Alabama, who beat the snot out out his game.
I would also argue that Beck or Vandagriff would have beaten the scrubs we played. Bennett was third string ONLY because Vandagriff was already slated to redshirt. If not, Bennett would have been fourth string.
How anyone can prefer to start Bennett over Daniels is just dumbfounding. A quarterback is there to throw, not run. That is why you have what are supposed to be "elite" running backs. I'll take the passer every time over the runner. So will the guy that beat us silly last Saturday.
Am not sure why this article was even incubated, Mike. It is more than obvious who the starting QB is and will be Dec. 31. That issue has been settled with Coach Smart, for reason(s) known only to him and the under-coaches. We have questions, but Kirby does not. - UGA66
So, it is put up and shut up? There are enough Georgia fans curious as to WHY JT is not an option to come into games. IF Kirby would come out and say that JT is not an option or at least give SOME explantion as to why when we are getting beat like a drum by BAMA that JT was never thought as an option in the second half. This defies logic. SO...if Kirby will not address the situation, then the fans will continue to wonder. I am thrilled that MG is still reporting on the subject and I think he is brave for doing so as he does not get support from the rest of the Dawgnation staff.
The best (2) teams that we have played AND WON against in the last 2 seasons are Clemson and Cincinnati.
JT Daniels was the starting QB in both games.
Did he or the team have stellar performances in those 2 games? Not really. But, it doesn't matter, because a WIN trumps all the statistics you want to throw at me. Bennett has yet to come close to beating the better opponents.
I don't ever see Nick Saban dealing with this kind of QB controversy now or in the future. We're dealing with one for the 2nd time under Kirby's tenure. Saban has always made the right QB choice at the right time. And he has proven that against the Dawgs. He also knows how to develop QBs. Bryce Young may be a sophomore, but he had very limited playing time last year behind Mac Jones and was able to step in and show his worth from Day 1 this season. Sure, he has struggled at times in a few games, but other than a close 3 point loss to A&M, the guy has won the games.
Like I said earlier, I seriously don't want either Daniels or Bennett to return next year. Let's get the new talented guys on the field and not lose them to the transfer portal.
CNS has no issue pulling the starting QB during the Natty or the SEC Championship, you know why? He wants to WIN!
Why has CKS not learned this call?
Bennett has 250 yards rushing after 13 games. Let's not drink the Kool-aid about his mobility being a weapon for the offense. It is not a weapon. Matt Corral has almost 600 yards rushing and that's a weapon. Smart has dropped the ball on his QB decision.
The focus should be on Kirby. He is the constant over the years. He is in charge of the personnel selections and the schemes he builds around them. It's all on him. We win or lose because of Kirby. He must be held accountable for the outcome.
I agree that if Stetson returns he will find his way into the starting role. He’s the more accomplished player knows the play book more better continuity is a weapon with his legs...I can almost here Kirby talking about it already
So let me get it straight, this season your boy scored 3 points against the #19 team so you think he would miraculously score 800% more (ie 24) against the #1 team to tie SB’s performance? I think I understand, but give me time to process your rationale since it makes all the sense in the world….NOT!!! BTW, he’d need to score 1400% more to win…..the 800% was to tie and equal SB. Anything is possible and I do believe in miracles so it’s a possibility…..just not a logical one.
Perhaps I'm the only one postulating that JT might be in some kind of legal trouble and Kirby is not playing him for fear of having to vacate wins. Having him on the sidelines as an advisor would not cause a forfeiture. Definite conspiracy theory. But it would explain a lot.
Someone didn't read what Mike said above: "Daniels, the highest-rated returning passer in the nation from his first appearance at UGA forward, opened the season with a hidden injury, wearing a flak jacket against Clemson.
The Georgia starting QB had suffered an upper-body injury in the team’s final fall scrimmage in flukish fashion when an offensive player was inadvertently shoved into him.
The Bulldogs receiving corps was also severely limited. George Pickens and Dominick Blaylock were out, veteran Kearis Jackson was too injured to play receiver.
Jermaine Burton, the projected go-to receiver, missed two-thirds of the spring and fall practices with various injuries. Tight end Darnell Washington was out with a foot injury, and veteran tight end John FitzPatrick was limited in practice leading up to the Clemson showdown."
Anyone who says something along the lines of "Is there something with JT?" doesn't understand our QB room. There is NO logical reason for a coach to be playing Bennett 60 mins a game even during blowouts. Zero. If he's your #1, then you need to protect him. The reasons, therefore, are irrational.
Look, nobody seems to mention Vandagriff. Remember him? 5 star, 4th best QB Freshman recruit? He's had all of ONE pass attempt all year. One. We've had 3 shutouts and he's thrown once. If JT was not an option, then you would think getting him ready would be priority #1. Remember that guy Fields and how he left because we didn't start him as a true Freshman???
We finish the regular year against Tech, shut them out with a 45 pt lead and Bennett doesn't leave the field. We get behind by 3 TDs and Bennett doesn't leave the field and JT was NOT EVEN CONSIDERED to be put in.
It's all about Smart. He wants to start Bennett to play against Michigan. You know that to be true.
you sound like a Bama fan talking about their team but this is especially true in the close games.
these types comments let to Saban’s rant against the Bama fan base and a sense of entitlement.
hate to think the dawg fans are headed in that direction but it sure seems like it
