ATHENS — Arian Smith is in a hurry, but that’s hardly surprising.

“Yes, at the end of the day I’m going to have to make a decision to choose my sport,” Smith said. Interesting comment. We will soon know.

Arian Smith is the best pure receiver the Dawgs have...with or without Burton on the team. But, like Burton, he's had a hard time staying healthy. IMO, if he is going to play football, he,'s going to have to drop track and add on some weight through proper diet and strength & conditioning. If he does what's necessary to take the next step in his development, he probably won't be as effective on the track. I.e., sacrifice a little speed for strength and stamina. He's got plenty to spare. LOL

Lane Kiffin convinced Saban to rest the receivers on BAMA's roster during the season to preserve their legs for a 14-15 game season. Cut down on the sprints and stamina runs, etc.. They were having issues with receiver injuries, much like UGA has been over the last few years. Kiffin said it worked and Saban takes that approach with receivers to this day.

BTW, regarding the Kiffin/Saban philosophy on delicate treatment of receivers during the season...I'm curious if Saban didn't revert back to his old ways after Kiffin left. He lost Waddle in 2020, Metchie and Williams in 2021.

Either, he was using the Kiffin method and it didn't work OR he stopped using the Kiffin method and it resulted in injuries. Curious.

Here's hoping that he remains injury free. Amazing speed and will be a huge asset as a result. Can't wait to see him run by CBs next year.

This spring will be vital for him to gain timing with the QBs on the "go" routes that he runs so well. Didn't compete last spring if I remember correctly.

    Go Dawgs!

Great points, @BigDawg61. Just one addendum: Didn't seem to work for Saban last year!

That's what I said in my next post. Sorry you missed it. LOL. To paraphrase...

Either, he's using the Kiffin method and it failed to protect Waddle, Metchie and Williams...OR...he stopped using Kiffin's method, after Kiffin left, and it resulted in the loss of Waddle, Metchie and Williams.

I do know that Kiffin said he had to convince Saban to go along and he was reluctant to do it. Maybe he reverted back to his old ways and Kiffin was on to something. Smart might want to talk to his buddy (Kiffin) about it.
