ATHENS — Georgia’s Kirby Smart might be under more pressure than any coach in college football on the heels of leading Georgia football to the CFP Championship.

Mike has written some variation of this story every year he has been with DN and Kirby has been at UGA. I expect to see this story again next year and every other year as long as Mike and Kirby serve in their same capacities and I am alive to read it.

I don't see it that way Mike. I honestly think that the pressure is OFF Smart to win another National Championship this season. I mean, seriously, it's SO HARD for any team - even Bama - to win back-to-back NCs. The last time it happened legitimately was in 2011 & '12 with Bama and then before that it was all the way back to '94 & '95 with Nebraska. It's just a rare thing in the world of college ball.
All coaches are under pressure to have a successful season & program whatever that may be...

Hard to imagine an article about CKS without including that, don't you agree?
I think a '23 run is much more likely to happen, after so many of these young defensive players get a season under their belts. But who knows, with a awesome looking offense shaping up, we may can outscore everyone on our schedule in '22.

Thanks 66! I certainly am not knocking Mike. There’s only so many angles when a HC holds his cards as close to the vest as does Kirby. That’s not a knock on Kirby. His way is working and I’m fine with different iterations of the same story while watching the Dawgs compete for championships. I am already looking forward to Mike’s version of this story next year. Imagine the “pressure” on Kirby to threepeat!
Didn't really read much of this article. But the 2 things I like most about UGA winning the CFBCG last season are 1) the end of the "1980" comments and 2) the endless articles from CFB reporters about "now or never" or "can CKS coach?" or "why hasn't UGA won the CFBCG when they have been a top recruiting school?" #2 are all variations of the same, basically ****, reporting. Considering CKS has to go through AL, Saban and all his #1 recruiting classes every year, anyone questioning why UGA hasn't won (until now) is showing their bias, agenda or stupidity. Being a CFB coach has to be 1 of the most demanding jobs in the country. It is a 24/7/365 job that requires endless energy and drive. Throw the goat roadblock in and it becomes difficult bordering on impossible. If CKS can continue as he has the last few years and weather the last run of Saban, he is poised to take over as the best coach and the best program in CFB. I don't think any fan base can ask any more.
Only two active coaches have multiple championships. OK, but only one other active coach has recruited as well as Smart has and he has 7 championships. I have very little doubt Kirby gets another and probably more than one more.
In the 10 years prior to UGa's win, only 5 schools have won the Natty AL, Clemson, LSU, OSU, FSU. Ten years is a pretty long time in coach years. 2 of those 5 have repeated. IF Smart does it, that will be 3 of 6. That's, er, 50%, pretty decent odds.
Number one, avoid the FSU scenario where the players slack off after winning a national championship. Number two, keep recruiting at a top level. Number three, keep elite talent away from the transfer portal. Number four, try not to lose too many assistant coaches, and when you do, find quality replacements.
The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Not. Kirby didn't get where he is with that mindset.
Pressure is a privilege.
I would say Dabo is under more pressure and he has more uncertainty within his program.
Will Georgia repeat in 2022? Not likely considering they just lost more talent than any program.
Kirby will win another NC within 2-3 years.
