Can Georgia football tight end room be as impactful as 2021 Georgia defensive line?
Georgia football will need its tight ends to play very well in the 2022 season.

I think the quality that UGA has in the TE room and the multiple TE sets they can throw out of paired with an improved OL and WR group could allow UGA to be one of the best rushing teams in the country this season. IF the UGA can stop teams from running the ball, as most CKS teams have then this years Georgia team may could become another very special team.
@Kconnorriley
Just for the record Conner...
Washington is not "a far better blocker than" Bowers. Bowers laid down some great blocks last year. You don't have to exaggerate Washington's value. Washington has the size and potential to be another Gronkowski, but, he's not there yet.
You also said Gilbert "is not as fast or as big as either (Washington or Bowers)", when, in fact Gilbert is bigger than Bowers and smaller than Washington.
Washington-----6"7' 265lbs
Gilbert------------- 6'5" 250lbs
Bowers------------6'4" 230lbs
Delp-----------------6'5" 225lbs
Other than those two issues, this was an excellent article and points out what I've been saying for months. UGA has everything in place to be an offensive juggernaut in 2022 and beyond. The Dawgs'll be able to run it, when they stop the pass, and pass it when they stop the run. I'm just not sure anybody is going to be able to stop em from doing either one. LOL
I've been saying for over a year now that we are set up to have a "Greatest SHow on Turf" situation in the passing game. We were limited by injuries to begin last season but by the time we got to the middle of the season games were over by mid 3rd quarter. The Michigan game was the, "OK here it is, deal with us" party. BAMA's defense was stout by the end of the year and we were obviously not going into that game willy-nilly throwing it all over the yard. BUt the end of the 4th quarter showed our quick strike capabilities.
If everyone is healthy, then I see us scoring pretty much at will. I know that's a frightening thought to some. And Larry Munson would be rolling over in his grave at the boldness of that prediction. THe games still have to be played and players have to execute, but why not?
Turn them loose!
@BigDawg61
Don't get upset. Darnell Washington is 265 lbs, almost as big as some LTs. Brock Bowers is 230 lbs, smaller than nearly all LBs and some safeties. (In fact, Bowers is smaller than some WRs. Kelvin Benjamin of FSU, Dorial Green-Beckham of Missouri and Mike Evans of Texas A&M were all bigger than Bowers while still in college.) Bowers can do downfield blocking and pick up blitzes but ask him to block on the line of scrimmage on anything beyond a trick play and he is a liability. Meanwhile on the line of scrimmage Washington can set the edge on running plays, take on DEs and LBs on passing plays and even stay on the field in short yardage and goal line situations instead of requiring UGA to line up a backup OT at TE. Bowers may excel in his blocking role, but it is a role that is totally different from what Washington will have to do. Which is why if UGA does a lot of 2 TE stuff with Washington and Bowers as expected, Washington will line up at TE while Bowers will be used as an H-back and line up at flanker or slot. A lot of people are talking 3 TE stuff but what should happen is a 3 man rotation: Washington to start at TE, Bowers at H-back and Gilbert to back up both spots. Yes, Delp should redshirt because he can't play Washington's TE role in the offense at all (225 lbs) and isn't as good as either Bowers or Gilbert in the H-back role.
I look for Delp to play a lot, redshirt? Maybe, we certainly have an embarassment of talent at the TE position, but DW and probably AG are gone after this season. THat leaves BB and OD and Sterling coming in next year. Delp will need to get experience! None of those are play on the line kind of guys, so we need to pick up a big boy TE for 2023, we could really use a transfer guy that has some maturity and is use to playing on the LOS.
I believe we will see some 5 receiver sets this season of Brock Bowers, Oscar Delp, Arik Gilbert, Washington and one of the wideouts of Mitchell, Smith or Jackson. WIth all those big bodies in who can move well it will be a matchup nightmare for opposing DC's. No double team on the WR or if they do, one of the others will be left wide open. Go Dawgs!
@thadec
I know what size they are...it's in my post. I'm not talking about what they CAN do, I'm talking about what I watched them do. You can go back and watch last year's games and focus on the TE position.
To suggest that Bowers can't block a DL or LB because of his size is...well, I don't know how to put it politely, so, I'll say this. Bowers is at least as big as 95% of RB's in College and NFL. What do you think RB's do when they stay in to block on pass plays, or when they block on screens or when they lead block for a 2nd RB or the QB on draws. They block DLs and LBs...it's half their job.
Not only CAN Bowers block...he DID it very well in his Freshman year. I have no doubt he will do it even better in his Sophmore year. Moreover, Washington didn't play as many plays as Bowers, but, when he did play...he blocked well, too. No better or worse than Bowers.
You guys don't seem to be getting the memo. Red-Shirt? Not a chance. UGA's gonna use all 6 TE's, including Delp in 3 and 4 TE sets this year. They are gonna run out a hybrid air-raid style offense, using the TE position, the way typical air-raid offenses use the WR. The WR position is going to become the Flanker with a WR on the 2 and 3 TE sets. Defenses won't know how to defend it and won't be able to defend it once they figure it out. Confusion on defense is going to set up one-on-ones that Bennett will be able to take advantage of almost at will. No defensive backfield on the planet earth can cover all of those guys one-on-one.
No team in history has had the talent at the TE position to do what UGA's gonna do this year. And, coaches will attempt to recreate it for years to come. I believe it's why Monkin stayed and Bennett came back this year. That offense has all the pieces in place to make history.
LOL...Red Shirt one of their most talented chess pieces? Not a chance.
Fans and media are going to have to adjust their paradigm when it comes to offensive position labels. You can call em tight end, wide receiver, split end, Flanker, running back...whatever label you want to use on those 6 guys, use it. But, I'm telling you now, Monkin is going use that position group in ways you've never seen. And, why not?
@reddawg1
100% right...you get it. They WILL need Delp, though. That kid is as special as Bowers and I believe a little quicker. He's like the lightening to Bower's thunder. We have to start thinking of these Tight Ends as RB/WR Hybrids. They are not traditional TE's and won't be used in the traditional way.
Think of Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Kyle Pitts and Rob Gronkowski...now, imagine having all of them on the same team playing on the field at the same time.
That's gonna be UGA this year. Bowers, Delp, Gilbert and Washington. My God, what a line-up. Then, throw in Kearis Jackson, AD Mitchell, Dom Blaylock and Arian Smith (to name a few).
UGA will be unstoppable with the RB's and O-Line they have, when you throw in the TE and WR lineup and a veteran QB with mobility and accuracy. Look for Bennett to run the football more, this year, too.
The creativity of Todd Monkin and Kirby Smart, the overall talent level across the board, offense and defense, make UGA the most dangerous team in College Football, this year. Smart and Monkin are feeding off each other...Smart designs defenses...Monkin designs offenses. You can bet they give each other input on stopping an opponent's offense and exploiting an opponent's defense.
