Georgia football has continued to recruit well at the defensive back position. It's a must given the turnover they've had.

I'd like to know more about how Tykee's recovery is progressing. If he comes back to form, the two Smiths could give Georgia a great starting pair while the freshmen develop. But at this point, it may be difficult for him to get fully conditioned by the Oregon game.

At corner, Lassiter has played well (even if he's not yet up to Kendrick's level). If he and Ringo don't get too banged up, I gotta think that one or two of those high-level recruits will flex their talents before midseason, and then we'll be golden.

CP, at this point there is not much to know about TSmith's recovery. Smith was hurt during practice after the AU game. Around 10/14/21. UGA typically is very cautious with guys returning from ACL reconstruction. It takes a minimum of 12 months to safely return to feeling 100% (it took me 2 full years but I was older and did not have the medical/rehab facilities that UGA has. Also I used part of my own patella tendon as my "new" ACL which prob prolonged the time needed to my feeling 100%).

GPickens returned a little faster but Pickens is a WR. After his return Pickens ran mostly straight line routes. A S like Smith has to plant hard, react and change directions. His rehab/readiness to play will take longer. Safe to say Smith won't be ready for OR. You may not see Smith before the FU game on 10/29. Probably no need to rush him back for SC, MO or AU.

That being said, the young DB's will need to grow up fast. DEverette hinted that he can play in the spring game. He should be a regular contributor by midseason. A S will need to progress enough to contribute in TSmith's absence. IDK about Daniels. He seems out of position more than he should be. Instincts? Lack of reps/comfort in the D? Maybe Starks will catch on quickly. Insert scrappy Bullard at Star and move Poole to S may be the stop gap until TSmith is 100%.

Lassiter showed pretty well last year and NGreen has potential to be a solid SEC player. With a whole year in the system those 2 guys should be contributors and relatively solid this year. If they aren't there are some talented freshman breathing down their necks.

Gotta have them, however only four can start on any team at best. Go Dawgz. 😎

I didn't realize Tykee's injury was so late. So we really will be thin in that second safety spot early in the season.

I'm less concerned about CB. Forgot about Nyland Green. Between him, Ringo, Lassiter, Everette and all those other freshmen, we should be in pretty good shape there. They'll make mistakes because they're a young group but they're also fast, athletic and strong enough to make some great plays too.

TSmith had at least 2 injuries last year. I believe he had an ankle/foot/lower leg injury last summer. Worked his way back from that to FINALLY get some PT in the AU game. Only to get seriously hurt in practice the next week. Disappointing. I was following TSmith closely as he was 2nd team AA the previous year. Many people don't remember but some publication(?) came out with a "Top 100 CFB players" last year and Smith was something like 48. He was the highest ranked UGA player on the list! So theoretically UGA played the entire year w/o the best player on the team. Unlike AL that only had to play 3 Q's w/o JWilliams.

The '22 UGA O should be able to score enough to weather some growing pains from the young DB's. By the 8th game (FU) you would expect the mixture of experienced and less experienced players and the addition of TSmith to become a pretty formidable D at all 3 levels. Barring injuries of course.
