Top tax bracket in CA is 12.3% (plus an additional 1% mental health services tax for those making over a million). So basically 13.3%. GA top tax bracket is 5.75%.
CA - 21.55 million in taxes on his 162 million. Net 140.45 million, or 23.41 million/year.
GA - 7.48 million in taxes for the 130 million 5 year deal offered by the Braves. Net $122.52 million, or 24.5 million/year after state taxes.
He did get a more lucrative deal in CA due to the 6th year, but more per year in GA. I think the Freeman’s will be alright either way.
Yeah, I thought the taxes were higher in CA. Thanks for clarifying. So, I guess the extra year helped. Still seemed much ado about a difference in salary that won’t make one bit of difference to his children’s children.
Just think I would have gone for the “lifer with one team” status myself.
oh well, wish him well.
Just added Kenley Jansen from the Dodgers to make a really good bullpen even better. Seems he'll start out as the closer, meaning Will Smith can be a 7th-8th inning guy. AA is out there working, baby!!
That bullpen is straight up nasty.
35 million deferred.
AA has done a incredible job since he has taken over. I believe we are set up for a nice window of success !
Freddie Freeman fired his agent because he withheld knowledge about the Braves' final offer. He likely would have accepted and remained in Atlanta.
That should be a crime. What a sleeze move.
yup. agent made more money from the LA contract so he didn't tell him about the braves offer
Holy cow. If this is true (not saying you’re making anything up), then it would make a lot of things make sense. And I hope he sues that agent into oblivion.
Wow! Just wow! I can’t imagine he will be a successful agent much longer. Not only immoral and unethical, that was a dumb move.
It's being reported by Doug Gottlieb. He definitely did fire his agency and he looked like a mess during that last series in Atlanta. Apparently he only found out about the offer during that series.
According to Brian Jordan, Freddie knew before the series in Atlanta of his agent's doing. BJ was a charity guest speaker a couple weeks back in Augusta, and he mentioned Freddie told him about his agent doing him dirty when the Braves played out in LA earlier this year. He said Freddie fell into his arms crying when he saw him in LA. Either way, Freddie could still be a Brave, which is the most disappointing part.
Seems accurate.
a pox upon him.
