Shift in power or blip on radar? SEC Network star Chris Doering eager to see how Georgia responds
ATLANTA — Georgia won’t truly be able to answer any questions until Sept. 3 when it opens the season against Oregon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Hard to believe it's already that time of year! Yes, Bama and Dawgs for the SEC. And Dawgs should have plenty of motivation after last year's shocking defeat to Bama in the SECC. King Kirby won't let our warriors forget what happened that night.
GO DAWGS!
be on board, and It's not done yet,,,,,,,,, Have seen flips at last minute (G. Pickens). But YOU with us or against us, bottom line... We will be alright, and the correct recruit will he will excel, (Hearst, Hampton, Edwards, Moreno, Tate, Davis, Worley, Henderson, Gurley, Chub, Michel, Swift, White, ____)
The media guys don't know any more about the Dawgs this year than they did last year. LOL
It seems they don't see UGA's offense coming. And that's alright by me. Before the end of the year, there will be a number of breakout stars and Bennett will be playing like an old pro worthy of Heisman consideration. Monkin is going to unveil a prototype offense that will make teams have to defend every inch of the field. He's got the personnel now, and they're deep at all positions. He's been gradually installing the core for 2 years...well, a year and a half anyway. Now we're going to get see the various nuances in all their glory out of 3 or 4 TE sets. Not even an unfortunate injury can derail this offense, because it doesn't ride-or-die on 1 or 2 players, unlike Bama. I believe that's why Monkin returned as coordinator and Bennett as QB. Bennett and Monkin seem to share a bond similar to Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerrffel or Lane Kiffin and Matt Corral....except those were offensive minded HC's.
BAMA...Generational defense? Hmmmm? Okay, I guess we throw that term around with reckless abandon now. LOL. They will be good, but, so will UGA. Not necessarily "Generational". That label needs to be earned. We'll evaluate that as the year progresses. BAMA is a one-trick-pony on offense. If Young goes down, it's virtually "Over" for them. If Young doesn't get protection, "Over". If this year's batch of receivers don't live up to the 2020 and 2021 group...it's over.
And, BAMA is where everybody wants to place all there prediction eggs? They're asking questions about UGA, they should be asking about BAMA. It kills me how these guys think that this year's team is somehow a carryover of the 2020 or 2021 teams. That's just not how it works, is all. LOL, When are they gonna learn?
UGA's sack leader last year (Beal), wasn't even a starter and didn't get significant playing time until Adam Anderson departed after the FLA game. Think about that just a minute. For every player UGA lost after the season, there was a shadow player getting playing time behind them. UGA's front 7 defense will not be near as inexperienced as the media narrative would have you believe. They may not be as deep this year, but they have a Top-5/Top-10 defense.
The defensive backfield has top-of-the-line ingredients with a 5 star Michelin Chef doing the cooking. LOL. I expect them to be vastly improved over last year and hungry. The next 3 years could be UGA's best defensive backfield ever. Generational, if you will. LOL
Man...it's almost here. Sep 3 sure did roll around fast. Maybe that's what winning the Natty does for you. It's been so long ago, I barely remember the 1980 Champioship run. When we won that one, it had been 38 years since the last one and I recall the same remarks being made then only we didn't have computers and Social Media or ESPN. What we knew, is what we read in the paper, heard on the radio or watched on "The Vince Dooley Show", every Sunday morning during the season. LOL. There were a lot of close games that year. There wasn't the domination we all witnessed last year. UGA is a completly different style team in almost every respect, except defense. Erk Russell would have those guys ready to eat there guts and ask for seconds, before every game. He was a "great coach" and "man". They played tough, physical, hard-nosed defense, just like they do today.
Pick who ya want. I'm going with the Dawgs this year, cause I know what they have. The West is going to be wild this year....Mark my words. It should be a fun season.
Sorry this was so long...I felt inspired and got carried away. LOL
My sentiment, exactly! I have a higher expectation for this team, going into this season than last year's team, going into their season. I think a lot of people will be surprised at how good this year's Dawgs will be, on both sides of the ball.
Excellent post!
The first sentence nails it.
In a very real sense nobody knows what the crystal ball doesn't reveal, but think about it.
Kirby has been from day one all about building true depth. He's had time to do so. Last year demonstrated the importance of stacking layers of talent. It also looked like he'd done a much better job of it than the guy one state to the west who had a team highly dependent on a few key pieces.
If anybody works hard and is demanding of their staff and players it's Kirby. He is extremely unlikely to think winning last year means anything this year.
Players resting on their laurels will be resting on the sidelines and/or running the stadium stairs.
This will not be last year's Georgia team trying for a repeat. This will be an entirely new team with a mixture of players old and new. Hungry. Eager to prove their own wares. Eager to build their own legacy. Eager to prove something.
Above all, winning is fun. If Kirby teaches anything (and he does) it's how to work hard all year in an effort to have tons of fun on fifteen fall Saturdays.
Last year we beat Alabama when it counted. Texas A&M beat them. A bad Florida team almost beat them. Even Auburn, a weak Auburn playing their very best game of the year, probably should have beaten 'em. Last year's Alabama was far from invincible. That tells us very little about this year's Tide team, but it's not likely Saban and the Tide can merely reload and do the same thing at the same level as last year and win 'em all.
Don't get me wrong because I take every opponent seriously. Anybody can beat anybody. Still, I think Georgia's program and team - as young as this team is - are very well positioned to be contenders.
Go, Dawgs!
