Georgia stock report: Early returns, Kenny McIntosh adds smooth element
ATHENS — Georgia coach Kirby Smart does nothing by chance, so the recent trend of open practices certainly has cause behind it.

Glad to hear there are signs that Stetson is still growing and improving! It is what we all hope will be the case.
2 TE's soaring
1 RB soaring
1 TE UP
1 RB UP (and he is a good receiver)
1 RB future
2 WRs even (both projected to be backups)
Yeah, there are going to need to be A LOT of 2 TE sets this season
Great observations and article, Mike. I've been excited about Paul since watching his highlights and looking at his senior stats. How he was rated a three star is beyond me. I think his speed is my only question. He looks quite fast on the tape, and hopefully that transfers to the SEC. If so, look out on #3. He has everything else. Also, Stet looks like he has added muscle, so just a little bit more zip could be the expected effect. That might be all he needs to take the next step.
What's the status on Vandergriff. If no love this season, just another nail in the 5 star QB coffin at UGA story. Beck, yes has all the tools. But the pick-6 giggle against UAB last season makes me not like his character/attitude as much.
I don’t think Vandagriff is going anywhere, unless Georgia brings in a transfer QB ahead of him in 2023.
Also, why the focus on highschool NFL recruiting stars?
Dell McGee was a running back from GA who went to(I can't hardly bring myself to type it)...Auburn(closest to home), has coached elite running backs(Crowell for one)and knows really good RB's when he sees one. Lucky to have him and ALL of our assistants.
It is great to be on top of the college football world! And its all due to Kirby of course, as we all know, because without him we would have none of this, but he couldn't have built all of this without all of the GREAT coaching staff and the strong support of the Admin.
McGee is under-rated, which is fine by me I hope he is here another 10 years! Muschamp what a freakin' bonus cherry on top of it all! Monkin, man if he stays 5 more years, he is just getting started and without an elite QB(what if he stays until he's coached at least one for 3 years?!) And all the rest, energetic, hard-working and great at what they do and really good men first.
Enjoy the ride fellas while its here! We are on top of the football world after yearning for it year after freakin year for decades!!! And this will not be the last time, but this first one should be the sweetest and enjoyed every day. 👍️
I'm loving the Andrew Paul highlights I just saw!! Player!!
Gotta love the quote from Muschamp. Glad and lucky to have him on board.
Yes, Vandagriff is going to split. He is only 1 year behind Carson Beck and won't get a pandemic year because he arrived in 2021. This means that he and Carson Beck - who arrived in 2020 and will get the pandemic year - have the same amount of eligiblity left. More realistically if Carson Beck plays well he will be off to the NFL in 2 years (if he doesn't he will be replaced) but that still leaves Vandagriff with only 1 year, which he isn't even guaranteed to get because of Stockton.
We focus on high school recruiting stars because the top 4 programs right now - Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State - reel in 4 and 5 star recruits. In times past you had some schools with innovative approaches that were able to contend for and even win titles without 4/5 stars but now that the game has homogenized around the pro style spread with RPO, that is over because everyone is now recruiting the same types of athletes on both sides of the ball, and those athletes are hard to find. Contrast back in the day when Nebraska used to recruit a bunch of TEs, FBs, RBs and option QBs, bulk them up and play them at other positions to play them in a "for college" offense. Or how guys like Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech, Bobby Ross at Georgia Tech, Bill McCartney at Colorado, Joe Paterno at Penn State, Don James at Washington etc. were outstanding at finding talented guys from the sticks that no one ever heard of. No one does that anymore which is why 4 and 5 stars are more critical than ever.
Doesn’t Georgia’s 2021 Natty disprove your theories concerning recruiting stars and team builds? Just curious…
Not sure I follow your reasoning here, considering Georgia's status as an elite recruiting program.
Good report MG, thank you. Always excited to hear the dawgs are moving ONward and UPward! It is going to be a struggle this year with all this talent to keep everyone happy! I am glad that Kirby likes to rotate the D-line as much as he does, hopefully that will satisfy most. I am hoping our WR speedsters (Mitchell and Smith) can stay healthy this year so that the offense can keep defenses honest with the long ball. We should have our best percentage rating ever in the red zone with all the TE studs we can have on the field. Hopefully, there will be some 4-TE plays - can't wait to see Bowers, Washington, Gilbert and Delp on the field at the same time! GO DAWGS!
Great stock report, Mike. Most exciting thing to me was reading that Bennett has more zip on his throws. If he can maintain that, it will make him a MUCH better quarterback and we'll have an even stronger team. He might surprise some folks.
Most disappointing thing was reading about Rosemy-Jacksaint. I really thought he would be ready to soar this year (and I guess he still could), but it sounds as if early on, he's either regressed or, at best, is standing still. The deal about both him and Arian Smith make it absolutely essential that McClendon (or somebody) gets after it on the recruiting trail and start bringing in some elite wide receiver recruits. These all-world Tight Ends we have now won't be around forever to carry us.
Go Dawgs!
Are you going to focus on the few guys who weren't blue chip recruits (SB IV, McConkey, Jordan Davis) or the dozens of guys on that were? Just by itself, look at the draft. Of the 15 guys who were drafted from UGA, how many do you suppose were not blue chips? 3: Justin Shaffer, Jordan Davis and Devonta Wyatt. Even Jake Camarda was the #3 punter in his class. Why do you propose the idea that it is possible to build a championship team with the 3 guys who weren't - the exception - as opposed to the 12 guys who were, the norm? Especially since even the 3 stars were backed up by blue chips anyway (Zion Logue, Jalen Carter etc.) who played plenty and are going to get drafted this year?
