DawgNation has two dedicated staff writers in the press box for every Georgia football game. That’s Mike Griffith and Connor Riley. We also have a guy on the field. There is usually much more to be seen than just what shows up in the viewfinder of his camera lens.

What a fun and insightful article to read...thanks Jeff! Love all the positives and think you might be right about the Dawgs in 2022...it WILL be fun to watch this ride!

Loved the sideline observations, Jeff! Really added to the game watching experience!

Also enjoyed the bit on Washington’s apparent joy in playing the game. He was one that I thought might transfer after last year. Never been so glad to be wrong.

Finally, the review of the line play and the substitutions therein was spot on.

    Much thanks, great read!!

Great article Jeff as usual. I've been saying all along that this offense will go down as perhaps the greatest offense at UGA, ever! Certainly if the starters stay healthy. We may not have the best receivers in the nation, but we've got really good ones. Certainly good enough to be a special offense overall with a special RB that can catch, and TE's that are among the best in the nation, and a confident SB at the helm and Monken calling the shots. I do want to see more effectiveness in running the ball.

SB is a gamer. THe defense will improve as the season goes forward . It will gel, some are getting experience for the first time., learning on the fly. By mid-seasn they should come into their own. I don't like the fact that we didn't get any sacks, and tackles for a loss, not sure about that one. I don't remember seeing many blitzes which tells me they were going to take a bend but don't break attitude with all the newbies.

Great article, Jeff! You hit on a key point that I noticed at the beginning of the game (and what little I saw of warm-ups): how confident and happy the Dawgs seemed to be even BEFORE they took the field or scored a single point. There’s something there that should serve the team (and its fans) well throughout the season.

As to whether they’re better than last year? I’m guessing the injury status will dictate that as much as anything… hoping they stay as healthy all year as they did in Game #1! 😁🤞

I loved the play late in the game by Bill Norton. Seems to have a real nasty attitude.

I always knew, Little Neo was "The One". He faced the machine leader last year and defeated him in his own venue. Now, he's going to lead Zion (Athens) to the land of Champions. LOL

Nice article Jeff. I think Coaches Smart and Monken has had enough of the mailman non believers and decided to pull the cuffs off Stetson and game plan to showcase how good he really is. I also believe the message was meant for Jermaine Burton also. If you remember, he announced he was entering the portal right after Stetson announced his return. J B wanted to be the feature guy and he didn’t he didn’t think that would be a possibility with Stetson behind center. Keep writing that story Stetson and give the he ll while doing it!

Let's not bring up JB again. His has thought he was entitled, but really he is a cry-baby. Look at his HS days, lots of movement, college no difference. Herbstreit, state on Game Day that he did not look the part. I think he looked the part and played the part Saturday, but better than he did in the Natty. He was mobile and threw a lot of nice passes. If he this keeps up then the naysayers will eat crow.......

I will admit, I was a loud voice calling for SBIV to ride his glory into the the sunset. His game-play on Saturday proved that he was more than capable of high-level football. Hell, he didn't even have a ball batted that I saw. A huge improvement on his part and I admit to thinking that he did not have that game in him.

I am very happy to see CKS give the 4th QTR to Beck - not something he has done the last few years. If that call was not a one-off, then I expect Beck, Brock, and Stockton to get, at least, the whole 2nd Half this week. SBIV already showed he is in polished form.

Lastly, I appreciate the love for Milton, but I have to be honest in that Edwards looked like the better back: power, explosiveness, "suddenness," drive, and flat-out speed.
