Stetson needs to go back to his flip phone. He’s been reading his own hype and may have been trying too hard to win a trip to NYC. It’s possible that if he’s out of contention that the same guy who was great vs Oregon just might show up again.
Nope. Stet is done as any kind of serious Heisman candidate. End of story.
Football is a team sport. Typically the teams that achieve the most success focus on teamwork, roles, and a team first mentality. Not on individual awards.
UGA sets the standard in CFB for maintaining a team first mentality. That is in the DNA of every player UGA recruits. If a player's goal is to focus on individual goals he will not be recruited to UGA.
Oddly, the 1 position that can run up stat's (to some extent) at UGA is QB. The last season and a half CKS has not played more than 1 QB while he has substituted liberally at all other positions.
That being said, the odds are stacked against SBIV putting up the numbers needed to win. 1) UGA's balanced pass/run attack reduces passing numbers and 2) UGA's many blowout games dictate running out the clock for the majority of 2nd half's.
“…with Coach Kirby Smart reluctant to substitute at the position.” This could be the understatement of this decade. Plus, Stetson Bennett is not winning the Heisman.
SB is a very good and accomplished QB. He's a winner. He led UGA to the NC. I take nothing away from SB. But I challenge anyone to watch his play this year and say, "He's the best player in college." THat's ludicrous.
I seriously doubt he's the best passer on the team. The Heisman thing is just over after the last 2 games in which we came out flatter than a pancake against two not very good SEC teams.. Happy just to win those games. and move on and hope his play improves or we very well could be seeing Carson Beck.

which is very curious in light of
Georgia hasn’t had a Heisman Trophy finalist since Garrison Hearst in 1992, and Herschel Walker was the most recent UGA winner of the coveted award in 1982.
@MikeGriffith the infamous "average athlete on a great team Gino Torreta over clearly superior athletes Marshall Faulk and Garrison Hearst" 1992 Heisman debacle is precisely why no one does the "best player on a the best team with the best story" anymore. In order to be a legitimate Heisman candidate there has to be a case for you being one of the best athletes in the college game. Without that, Bennett will only be a Heisman candidate in the minds of the same sort of Georgia fans who claim that UGA should have played for the 2007 national title ahead of an SEC champion LSU (UGA didn't even win the SEC East) that had a better record AND beat the Tennessee team that thumped UGA by 21 points.
His focus should be on nothing more than leading the UGA offense in moving the ball down field, ball security, pass accuracy, and third down conversions. The Heisman Trophy is a long shot at best, and he has a much more realistic shot at being the QB for the 2022 SEC Champions, and even another CFB National Championship if he just does his job and avoids the distraction of individual awards. Go Dawgs!
Oh pa-lease... Bennett a Heisman winner?! That's about as likely as him being MVP of a win in a national championship game. Oh yeah, that's right, he actually did that. Screw "the odds", SB, for any and all things... just keep chopping and be your best... the rest will take care of itself as it's supposed to. Go Dawgs!
