The only game that really matters anymore for the elite programs is the national championship game. It’s been that way since Bama got the benefit of an off week and won a natty without even winning its division.
The regular season, the SECCG, and the semis are the stepping stones to get to the game that matters. Kirby understands! Getting to the game that matters and winning it is the real standard Kirby has brought to UGA.
Honestly, it was kinda-of a sloppy win, but we definitely got the job done. Some of Bennett's passes were off and some were poorly chosen, but not a bad job overall. MS State is not a pushover team.
Stetson got a bit hurried and the ball was knocked loose on one occasion. He was under pressure a lot compared with other outings. I was surprised. They invaded our offense. Shades of Missouri. I assure you LSU will exploit this. Against inferior teams you can get away with some of this. Give Stetson a "clean pocket" and he will make the throw. I like it when he runs...he really dazzles the defenders....makes them look inept. I call him crazy legs. He can peddle. He may toss a few off course aerials but his feet generally find the end zone at least once in games. I am a Stetson fan.
Kearis and Ladd were outstanding. But my man Jalen Carter kept the wolves from the door most of the night. He is quick and strong. QBs know about him and generally try to hurry the play...to little avail. He is UGA's best player...IMO. I like his swagger.
UGA should blow through KY and Tech. A much improved LSU is a different story. Should be a physical game. UGA, with AD Mitchell back (hopefully), should be firing on all cylinders and cover the spread.
I really admire this UGA team. To me, they have overcome many obstacles to once again be ruling college football. Hats off to the coaching staff. Winners. GO DAWGS!!!
With as much time as there already is between the conference title and playoff games, I doubt the extra week off had anything to do with it. If anything, I've heard the opposite - that with all that time off, the biggest concern is "rust" and conditioning. Of course, the best teams know how to manage that, and an extra week may be beneficial in a specific scenario where there's a critical player who needs more than 4 weeks to get healthy but not more than 5. But overall I don't think it's much of a factor. The amount of traveling Georgia had to do before that game, on the other hand...
I really don't think you guys have been listening....The ONLY game that matters is Saturday against an embarrassed but strong Kentucky team dying to soothe all of this years ills with a win against #1. Stoops will have the Wildcats focused and ready to die for that win. History is ripe with examples of discounted "little guys" whippin the arse of an over confidant BIG DAWG. Thankfully, we have the best head coach and staff in college football and I know we will be ready to make a statement Lexington......GOOOO DAWGS!
And, most of his passes were "on-the-money", in tight quarters.
And, he ran like a gazelle to score their 2nd TD.
Let's tell the whole story on the passing game.
Did you watch Young, Williams and Stroud, last weekend? The only guy I've seen play, that could give all of the QB's mentioned, a run for there money...is that Maye kid (currently 3rd or 4th on Heisman favorites list).
The only thing Bennett has lacked, is hype and opportunity. Kirby backed down on the explosive passing game after the S.C. win, effectively putting a damper on the hype machine and to induce some adversity for his team to grow from.
Bennett will put on a dazzling show between now, and the CFP. But, don't look for Kirby or Todd to run up any scores to put "pretty-points" on the board.
I heard Kirby say, "We don't need no stinking style points. Those are for Posers.". Lol
It may not have mattered, but, you can't dispute the fact that it was an edge, teams not named Notre Dame enjoyed. Lol
