ATLANTA — Kirby Smart has put Georgia football atop the SEC this season, but no one questions Nick Saban’s place in recent college football history.

Personally, I don't think Alabama is good enough this season. I absolutely don't think they're one of the top 4 teams in the country. Sure, their record is 10-2, but they were alarmingly close to be 7-5. Their defense has been up-and-down all season, the running game has been spotty, and they do not have any stand-out receiving threats. The QB is the single truly bright spot on the team, but even as good as he is supposed to be, he has fewer passing yards through 12 games than Stetson Bennett.
That team to the west cries and complains about anything that doesn’t go their way. Tcu deserves to get in more than they do. Maybe they would get in if they had their 2 best wide receivers.
Great point, Mike. Hang Saban with his own words from 2018. Yep, what goes around comes around. I don’t think the committee would be dumb enough to put 2 loss Bama in.
I don’t believe OSU has a better resume given the teams they have played, but they only lost 1 and until someone figures out a way to allow unbiased views of schedules, math will usually carry the argument. UGA got left out in 2018 for a clearly inferior Oklahoma team. Committee members, and media voters, remain in love with “explosive” offenses even if the overall team is deficient. Would rather see UGA play TCU because if the voters use any logic, OSU is a better team than TCU. Hopefully, Kirby votes Bama 5 - ha. Regardless, Go DAWGS
Spot on. And didn’t Saban sound a little bit like Jimbo talking out of both sides of his mouth.
Saban was begging in that video like a little girl begging for a lollipop. Bama lost 2 games, they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs over a 1 loss TCU or OSU.

If Alabama and Ohio State are one of the best four teams, they would have been playing in their conference championships. Nick references the close losses his team had away from home field. Michigan played in the horseshoe and blew Ohio State out. So no excuses Nick. He also talked about injuries. Georgia had injuries at the start of last year and this year, but they were able to win. Letting teams in the playoffs without playing in the conference championships is like giving out a participation trophy to everyone. Ohio State shouldn't be in either. They had their chance to win at home in the last game of the season. TCU and USC might not be the better teams, but they did finish the season with great records and were able to play the extra game.
If this were during the regular season and OSU and Bama both had off weeks, there would be no doubt that USC would drop to at least 7 or 8 and TCU would drop to at least 4. OSU would move up to 3 and Bama to 5. Conferences elect to play championship games. They could have very easily declared their regular season winner the champion and then the rankings would have been the same as last week.
Don’t be surprised to see OSU and Michigan in the semis. TV and CFP want to avoid an all conference championship game again after last year and 2018. Ratings would be higher for a SEC/Big10 final.
Saban’s point is well-taken — most would pick the Tide over the Buckeyes head-to-head.
And most would be wrong. Alabama's best victory this season was over 8-4 Mississippi State. They should have lost to 8-4 Texas because Bryce Young was indeed sacked in the end zone. Texas, which lost 20-19 on the last play of the game, should have been awarded two points and the ensuing kickoff. And oh yeah, the backup QB played most of the game for Texas. Texas A&M? Similar: it was clearly pass interference in the end zone. A&M should have been given the ball on the 1 yard line. And again: backup QB. Ohio State's only loss was to #2 Michigan, and Ohio State was without their best WR and best RB in that game ... both future NFL starters. In addition to losing to Tennessee, Alabama lost to the same 9-4 LSU team that not only lost to the ACC's FSU, 5-7 A&M and was slaughtered by Tennessee, but was just made to look silly by UGA.
Alabama's resume is not only worse than TCU. It is worse than TENNESSEE, who beat Alabama head to head AND beat the LSU team that beat Bama.
It is worse than USC, who won their division and has a better record.
And yes, it is worse than Clemson, who has a better record and is ACC champs.
And you know what? It is worse than Utah. Utah beat USC twice, giving them 2 wins that are way better. Their loss to Florida was the first game of the season, which everyone was willing to ignore had LSU beaten UGA. Utah is a conference champion with the same # of wins. And if a 2 loss team can leapfrog a 1 loss team with more wins, as Bama wants to do with TCU and Ohio State, why can't a 3 loss team leapfrog a 2 loss team with the same number of wins in Utah?
Like UGA in 2018, Alabama has no case. Leave them at home.
Will let's look back to 2018 when Georgia lost to South Carolina in a close game in OT and went 11-1 during the season. Then lost a close one to Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Georgia did not get in as a two-lost team after playing in the conference game. Alabama did not make it to the conference game and they have two losses on their resume. In 2018, I think Georgia was one of the best four teams, but the committee did not think so.
I beg to differ: Saban's point is not well taken. He pointed out the strength they showed in their last 3 games. Well, let's look at those 3 games. They beat Auburn, a sub 500 team, by a third of the margin that Georgia won by. They beat Austin Peay by about the same margin as Central Arkansas, a losing record lower division team, beat Austin Peay, despite the fact that Alabama was obviously trying to pour it on. And they beat Ole Miss, which, while they had a winning record, lost 4 of their last 5 games. That doesn't remotely compare to TCUs last 4 games, much less the whole season. The CFP criterion is performance, not subjective perception of potential.
Clemson should be ranked higher than Alabama. Clemson played and won their championship.
Saban has beclowned himself.
