Quarterback Stetson Bennett was named a Heisman Trophy finalist on Monday.

And Stetson Bennett IV should win the award.
CJ Stroud didn't win the Big 10 East.
Caleb Williams lost to Utah twice, making Utah's QB more deserving.
And while getting TCU to the playoff is an outstanding accomplishment, Max Duggan didn't win a conference title.
The other 3 QBs had better numbers and are better players, but Bennett had a bigger impact on college football this season.
I will also add an intangible: leadership. Ever since he was a walk-on, his teammates have supported him and been 100% in his corner. Even after dark times like the Florida loss in 2020 and the Alabama loss in 2021. This clearly was a huge reason why none of the 4 and 5 star talent with NFL futures didn't complain about UGA running an offense this season that compromised their statistics and NFL prospects. There were some players who did so like Jermaine Burton, and their decisions to prioritize their shot at lifetime financial security from the NFL should be respected. However, so should the decisions of those who remained, and that is a key part of what should be the Bennett Heisman story. No UGA player - current or even former - has had anything but good things to say about Bennett. Everyone likes him, plays for him and that is a huge reason why UGA has only lost 1 game with 2 years. It isn't talent. Alabama has more guys on the All-SEC team than UGA does, and USC is loaded with future NFL players. It is the ability to come together as a team. UGA has done that and SB IV is its unchallenged leader.
Bennett IV should win the award. There is no argument for anyone else.
Congratulations Mailman…..you’re a DGD. Go Dawgs!!!
Good for Bennett. I don’t think he will win it, but he has earned the right to be at the ceremony. However, the definition of the heisman that was shown during the game Saturday describes Bennett, not the other finalists. Go Dawgs!!
Congrats!! If we would have turned him lose the last three games, he could've gotten his numbers up enough to win it.
A three-time championship MVP, Stetson has accomplished what few other UGA QBs have. I had been thinking...just maybe, after his prolific performance against LSU... this time he just may get the Heisman finalist nod...he did. Gotta say, Hooker of TN, I believed would be the only one keeping him out. Stetson outplayed Hooker in that match-up earlier...that did it.
Congratulations, Stetson, you have made DawgNation proud. Now win it.
Stetson totally deserves this! His story is a movie waiting to happen, with or without a HEISMAN. SO proud of this young man and all the Dawgs!
I confess that I wasn't always a Stetson Bennett fan. I said before last season that we couldn't win a National Championship with him as our starting quarterback. I wasn't the only one who said that on here, but I own my incorrectness. Now, there is NO DOUBT that what Stetson has accomplished at the University of Georgia is downright remarkable. From where he's come from to where he is, is a story that should be produced and proclaimed throughout the land forever, regardless of whether he actually wins the Heisman Trophy. It's more than him just being a walk-on who won an SEC and National Championship. It's about how you could literally see the belief he had in himself, when even his own coaches and others didn't believe in him at all. He NEVER wavered in that belief and I, for one, am sorry I ever doubted this DGD. Props to you Stetson Bennett, and Go Dawgs!
I often think of the poster on this site who, when Stetson was give a scholarship to return from JC wrote “Mark my words - Stetson Bennett will never take a meaningful snap in a Georgia uniform.” Stetson won’t win the Heisman, but he’ll be wined and dined, he’ll have a feature interview during the show, they’ll put together a video on his life and family, etc. Interestingly, there are those who think that Stetson‘s too small for the NFL, but that Bryce Young will be the top pick. The two are the same size and Stetson’s a finalist this year while Bryce is not. What’s more, if the Dawgs win out, he’ll be one of five players in college football history to QB two teams to national championships, making him a College Football Hall of Fame shoo-in. So much for last season’s naysayers.
Beautifully done.
Stetson has my vote. His Heisman will be a lifetime achievement award.
As has been noted, Stet is the very definition of the Heisman.
Congratulations to Stetson Bennett, his teammates and coaches, his family, his hometown, and every Dawg fan who has supported him and cheered him on.
Go, Dawgs!
Whos better than the mailman - he always delivers...
Stetson is taller, faster, and better than last years winner. And he beat him head to head. By a lot.
"The Heisman is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work."......If this doesn't epitomize Stetson Bennett, I don't know what does. The Heisman is NOT a stat trophy....though in the past few years it has seemed that way. I nor anyone I know can offer a more convincing argument supporting the notion that this one individual has meant more to the success of the 2021 and 2022 Bulldawg Team. Stetson is the personification of a Heisman Football player.......In Heaven tonight Frank Sinkwich, Charlie Trippi and Vince Dooley are saluting SBIV achievement!
Congratulations to Stetson "the mailman" Bennett. Your accomplishments have proven everyone wrong. I hope you receive this great reward. Let's GO Dawgs and win another Natty.
Stetson deserves it. No player in college football has performed better in the biggest games this year, or last year.
We're about to find out if the Heisman is awarded to the player who puts up better numbers against lesser competition or is it given to "the most outstanding player in college football. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work."
That last sentence describes Stetson Bennett better than any player I've ever seen. From walk-on to National Champion, with a 27-1 record over the last two seasons.
@jdatl3 Stetson is not faster or better than last year's winner. And he beat him head to head due to having a much more talented team (15 draft picks). And even then he only beat him 1 out of 2. In a few months, Bryce Young will be a top 10 draft pick and NFL starter and Stetson Bennett will be Buck Belue 2.0. Fortunately for Bennett the media landscape will offer him a lot more than Belue, who tried minor league baseball, assistant coaching for Valdosta State, selling insurance etc. before settling into talk radio. So I can see Bennett joining the other national championship winning QBs from the SEC on ESPN, Greg McElroy and Tim Tebow, as well as getting rich from endorsements. But make no mistake: were Bryce Young UGA's QB last season Brock Bowers gets 1300 yards, James Cook rushes for 1000 yards and is a 1st round pick and UGA goes 15-0. And if Stetson Bennett were Alabama's QB last year, they lose at least 4 games.
@DJG76
In fairness, the Heisman hasn't been a stats trophy since the 1980s when it went to some run-and-shoot QBs from smaller schools that were horrible in the NFL (Ty Detmer, Andre Ware).
However, the award stopped going to "the best QB on the best team" due to the Gino Torreta over a future NFL Pro Bowler Garrison Hearst and NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk" debacle. Since then, guys have needed to have a minimum of athletic ability and statistics to get the award. So, yes, SB IV absolutely did need to throw for 4 TDs in the SEC title game to get to 20 for the season to get to New York. That he threw them in the first half, meaning that he could have had 6 or 7 TDs ... even better.
Haters gonna hate, that’s what they do. But I Love Stetson and So Proud of and for the young man. I’m not gonna post the Heisman statement that explains Why the trophy is presented. But no where in the statement does it say to the player with the best stats. I think sometimes even beyond football we’ve become obsessed with stats !! Like stats are the entire measure of a human being. I honestly Believe that if Mr. Heisman were alive or could speak from the grave he’d want someone like Stetson to win it. I mean the kid was a 3 star out of HS from a small school. And on the scout team. Talk about adversity !!! To Me Stetson epitomizes what the Spirit of the Heisman is all about or Should be about. And as for Bryce Young, Yes he deserved it last year, but Not this year. Henson Hooker has gaudy stats but his team sputtered and choked. NO it’s not his fault but that’s what happened. I say that because Some folks always rush to point out how much Help Stetson has had. Well ( Yeah I’m being silly but also making a point) I wonder how long Young would last without an O line or Hooker without receivers to throw to ??!!?? Point being Any and All Heisman winners past, present, and future had help !! And to all those on Twitter making the. s t u p I d comments that he only got it because he’s on the #1 team please explain Why more Dawgs Didn’t get allot of the other individual awards !! Bias to the upmost !! He doesn’t meet their ideal “profile” so they bash on him. Well he might ( with the Help of his Team) be about to break your hearts Again by helping to win Another National Title !! Go Dawgs !! Go Stetson !!
There is one thing for sure:
There will be MORE people watching this Heisman show than has watched in at least 15 years.
Just like the 12 team playoff expansion, this is just marketing and a money grab. I give the committee credit for being savvy in maximizing their already 10 year deflated ratings for the awards show.
I haven’t watched a Heisman show since Tebow undeservingly won it as a sophomore when his team still lost 3 games.
I will watch it now that SB will be there, and I will relish the looks on peoples faces if he takes home the trophy!
Go Dawgs!
