I agree Jim. I don’t think we will see many Heisman winners at UGA as long as Kirby is the coach. He believes in spreading the wealth and letting many players share the glory. If you are a recruit you need to realize in advance that you may need to sacrifice individual awards for team awards like SEC and national championships. At the same time those recruits need to notice 15 players were drafted last year by NFL teams. Go Dawgs!!!
The path to the Heisman seems to be at QB or WR. It will be hard for BB to win a Heisman but that doesn't keep almost everyone from recognizing him as the best player on the team. One could certainly argue for JC. But BB is as fine as a college player to come along as I can remember. Thinking back to Jake Scott and Terry Hoage days.
Couldn't agree more.....I really believe that's why we missed out on players like Arch and Justice....I see it as a BLESSING in disguise as these player would never buy into the TEAM STANDARD Kirby requires!!!

Honestly, not very many top 150 players buy into the TEAM STANDARD that you speak of. It is debatable how many of the QBs, WRs, RBs and TEs on UGA's current roster do. You have to remember that most of these are 3rd, 4th and 5th year players who were being recruited by UGA and committed to UGA when it was running a different offense. None of signed with UGA under the current regime where no RB or WR reaches 800 yards rushing or receiving, and the QB doesn't throw outside the hashes and only makes token throws downfield - and even then only to open guys in single coverage with no safety help, otherwise SB IV is supposed to check it down or throw it away - to keep defenses honest. Granted, they remained loyal AFTER getting to Athens, but this isn't what they signed up for. And if you look at the recruiting results since UGA adopted their current scheme, they aren't alone. It isn't just Arch Manning and Justice Haynes that you are singling out for some odd reason. Instead, UGA won't sign a single QB recruit at all this year. The QB recruit for next year isn't one of the top 100 kids that they were initially targeting. At RB? More of the same. Last year UGA had to flip a 3 star kid from Clemson just to get the numbers they wanted. This year a California kid that they had to flip at the last minute from UCLA is the only one in the class. If this keeps up, the RB depth that UGA enjoyed from 2017-2022 ends next season when Milton, McIntosh and Edwards will be gone.
Despite Dawgnation's narrative this past week, for top 150 players winning national titles isn't paramount. If it was, they would go to Alabama. Bama hasn't gone 3 years between national titles under Saban (though it is extremely likely that this streak is going to be broken next season). If Caleb Williams and Jordan Addison wanted titles, they would have chosen Bama last year out of the transfer portal. Addison would have picked up where John Metchie III left off from the 2020 title team and the 2021 team that went to the title game. Williams could have played while Bryce Young's injured shoulder healed. And Bama goes 12-0 during the regular season and is in the playoff regardless of what happened in the SECCG.
But no. Williams and Addison want to be top 10 NFL draft picks ASAP. By going to USC and playing for Lincoln Riley, mission accomplished. Addison will be the first WR taken in the upcoming draft. Williams' Heisman guarantees his being a 1st round pick next year so long as he doesn't regress, and he will have Riley's system and the talent advantage over the rest of the Pac-12 to make sure that doesn't happen.
Why do they feel this way? Simple ... a ton of guys with championship rings are working 9 to 5s like the rest of us. Most of them in fact are. Life after football is a bit better if you are a QB. Buck Belue will be able to regale UGA fans on TV and radio until he is 80. But what are the RBs (other than Herschel), LBs etc. doing? Public school teachers, insurance salesmen, middle managers, policemen, etc. Realize that a shocking percentage of the championship rings that players get are sold to memorabilia dealers. But an NFL contract as a 1st or 2nd round pick? That can set them and their family members for life.
Justice Haynes' father Verron Haynes? Now he actually had 1st or 2nd round pick ability, but Mark Richt's system at the time didn't feature tailbacks. So he was a 5th round pick. Rookie deal was $1 million. Fortunately he played well, stayed healthy and bounced around to where he made $8 million over 7 years. You can be absolutely certain that Haynes would rather his kid get the fully guaranteed $13 million rookie deal that Bama product Najee Harris got instead. And whether that extra $6 million - plus whatever Harris will get on his second contract - is worth a championship ring.
Of course Kirby Smart will say that it is. But Kirby Smart will make his $5 million a year either way.
I say go root for Alabama or THE or anybody but UGA.
