Where do I start
About to spend a nice Christmas Eve evening enjoying a bourbon or two with the brother in law. Which one do I start with?
Comments
Gotta go with the Booker's
Emphasis on the word “start” ….I like it!
Meme: “Can’t we have them all!?”
Not pictured… but I went with Baker’s first
I feel your pain.
I did Bakers then went with Mitchers.
Finishing my evening with Blantons
Yes you do. Very good taste
You too. OWA is probably my favorite, even more so than the 12 yr. Probably has something to do with the higher proof.
Never tried to Ole Weller Antique
I have very little experience with high quality bourbons, and I don't think I've tasted most of those. I have had the 1792 before and really enjoyed it.
How does the 1792 compare with the other bourbons here?
You can’t find blantons, weller, Elmer anywhere in Florida unless you’re willing to pay ridiculous markup
The 1792 Sweet Wheat is pretty darn good and probably falls somewhere in between a Buffalo Trace/Weller Special Reserve and a Weller 12. I bought about 10 0f them back around 2015 thinking it was a limited run and only have 2 of them left. The Port finish is just meh IMO. I mostly pull it out for tastings and what not.
Blantons has become a scam.
I’m always able to find it in small west Texas towns. Rarely in Dallas.
My favorite sipper, followed a fair distance back by Weller 12, Four Roses Single Barrel, and Bookers.
Thanks for the input. I think I'll add a bottle of the Weller 12 to my shopping list.
There's a certain something coming up next Saturday that might be the perfect opportunity to have something special.
Floridas interesting because of how the state allocates them with the ABC's.
In Georgia, it really came down to getting to know the folks. When I worked in Buckhead and lived in Decatur, I used to hit up Greens, Towers, and a couple other on my commute a couple times a week until they got to know me and after that things were much easier. Toco hills was almost always good for the special reserve.
The key was I never walked out empty handed Even if it were just a a Jim Beam Black for mixers or the Bourbon Cream for "milkshakes", I bought something. I saw them tell several guys they didn't get any in this week just to have that poor dude turn around and walk out, right before they would pull a bottle from behind the counter and sell to me.
