Two more Georgia football players depart, as Trezmen Marshall, Jacob Hood enter transfer portal
Two more Georgia Bulldogs entered the transfer portal on Friday morning, with senior linebacker Trezmen Marshall and freshman offensive lineman Jacob Hood both entering the transfer portal. On3 was the first to report both moves.

Best Wishes, good luck
Best wishes gentlemen, good luck and thanks for being a Dawg!
Second that! We would not have these championships without you guys!
Good Luck wherever you land!
Go Dawgs!
Both of these are a little more surprising than the others. Marshall seemed to be getting productive playing time, and (I thought) was on his way to being a more key component next year. As for Hood, who knows? I wouldn't think it'd be a playing time issue, since he knows he's been in recovery. All kinds of stuff goes into kids' decisions, though, which is an important thing to consider. It's easy enough to say, "well, he just wanted more opportunity," or "he knew he didn't fit the culture," but my guess is that it's always at least a little bigger than the easy answer. Good luck to them both.
These 2 defections were not unexpected. Hood was always a project and Marshall was oft injured. Both have been recruited over.
People are forgetting (not even mentioned in this article) that JWalker was recruited as an ILB. He is a sunday ILB in a 3-4 and OLB in a 4-3. He was pressed into EDGE this season by injury but that isn't his sunday position unless he grows. EDGE will be well manned in '23. Barring any injuries Walker will be the 3rd ILB next season involved heavily in the rotation. The 3 freshmen ILB will be stars. But not in '23.
CR also failed to mention that TRatledge was a 5* OT coming into the program. Seems obvious he enters the OT competition. Not a stretch that he slides over to RT w/Mims moving to LT. With EGreene making a really nice 3rd/swing tackle. It all depends on which younger players (OG or OT?) step up. Also no mention by CR of Truss and Willock returning as plug and play OG's allowing Ratledge to move to OT if necessary.
My concern would be over the last 2 (3?) cycles UGA has recruited 5 4*'s, 5 3*'s and zero 5* OL.
Good luck to them both. Saw Marshall sharing a touching moment with Kirby Smart after the game Monday night, and heard Marshall say, "I love you, coach." Reading this now, I suspect Kirby was aware of Marshall's plans and he leaves with his blessing. Same for the other kid. And we'll likely see some more attrition after Spring practice, including at least one of our QBs.
"My concern would be over the last 2 (3?) cycles UGA has recruited 5 4*'s, 5 3*'s and zero 5* OL." I've been wondering about that, too.
Searels surely deserves a lot of credit for how the OL played this year and for the development of guys like Willock, Truss and Mims. But I'm not sure that he (or Luke or for that matter any OL coach) is match the charismatic Pittman as a phenomenal recruiter. Still, with the best OL in the college football over the last two years, seems we ought to be getting our share of five stars.
Regarding who plays the other tackle slot: I was thinking that Willock (6-7, 335) or Truss (6-7, 320) were more likely to be that guy than Ratledge (6-6, 315), simply because length is good to have on the outside -- although admittedly that might not be as important as Ratledge's superior fundamentals and experience.
Thanks for the handwork best of luck moving forward. Back to back
For the last 2 seasons the UGA OL has played very well. BUT it was also well stocked with 5* and high 4* players. Ratings are not everything but in the case of the UGA OL the 5* (and high 4*) players have done very well. And needed less growth to reach elite.
The OL room has been well stocked with quality and quantity. THAT in itself has discouraged 5* players from signing. Any OL that does not want to wait to play is not signing w/UGA. Almost lost Mims this way. The 5*'s are cycling out after next season. There are a couple of very highly rated OT's in GA (and NC?) in the class of '24. UGA needs to get those guys. (and should)
To me, Ratledge has more agility and seems lighter on his feet than either Truss or Willock. Making him better suited to play OT and block edge rushers? 73 and 77 are bigger brutes making them better suited to play inside and block DT's? IDK. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah, I see what you mean. I actually thought I saw Willock be pretty nimble on some pulls to the outside. But alas, he will never get the opportunity to show us more. Such a terrible tragedy ..
