MJ Sherman didn’t have to wait long to find a new home, as the former Georgia outside linebacker will be heading to Nebraska to continue his college football career. He has three years of eligibility remaining after signing as a member of the 2020 recruiting class. Sean Callahan of On3 was the first to report the news.

Nebraska is very fortunate to get such a talented player. I hope he does well with his new team, and develops into a game-wrecker in the Big 10 where the NFL scouts can't help but take notice when the time comes. I really thought that we would see him a lot toward the end of this past season, and that he would make a push towards a starting position for the 2023 season. Although that didn't work out, he deserves a shot at being a difference maker for the Cornhuskers.

Always disappointed to see SEC to Big Ten transfers. It’s obvious given my username. At least not as cowardly as going to Mich or OSU

Disappointed....really expected to see Sherman make a larger impact...special teams and offence in 23.....he certainly has paid his dues but to leave the "Cream of the Crop" and go to a Big 10 cupcake is a head scratcher. Less than 2% of player get a shot at the NFL. If that was a goal, I would think UGA provides the best stage possible.

You aren't going to get an NFL shot if you can't get on the field. As Sherman was a 3rd year player who had been passed on the depth chart by underclassmen like Marvin Jones, Jr. and Jalon Walker, that wasn't going to happen. This is the result of recruiting the best group of linebackers in the country for the past 3 years in a row. Tae Crowder, who had 19 starts and had 115 tackles his last 2 seasons in Athens and has gone on to regularly play in the NFL wouldn't even get on the field at UGA today. (Or more accurately, he doesn't get offered a scholarship in the first place and probably winds up at Georgia Tech, Clemson, South Carolina, FSU or UCF.) That's just how much talent Smart has stockpiled in the LB room. There are plenty of places where Sherman can get on the field and become a 4th round pick because he isn't buried behind a bunch of future 1st and 2nd round picks.

Look at Tymon Mitchell. At UGA this season he would have been the #4 NT behind Jalen Carter, Zion Logue and Nazir Stackhouse, meaning that he wasn't going to get playing time in 2022 or 2023 and would have had to battle Bear Alexander for the spot in 2024 (his last year of eligibility). He goes to TCU and was their first DL off the bench this season with a clear path to starting in 2023. Not 1st, 2nd or even 3rd round pick material but still has a shot.
