Man, I’ll be honest. I have no clue what you’re talking about. No one is saying a crime took place. Unethical doesn’t mean criminal and Gantt represents a powerful organization with a lot at stake. He’s not just a normal dude.
I respectfully disagree in light of today’s culture. I’m old enough to remember when newspapers did exactly as you said…simply ‘report’ the facts. Irrespective of their opinions and political leanings, journalists prided themselves on being objective, both in print and broadcast. Cronkite used to simply finish with “And that’s the way it is…” after giving us just the facts and letting people decide for themselves what to think. Those days are long gone.
Investigating reporters have been very important within our country’s history, but that wasn’t investigative, it was written more like a biased op-ed with an agenda.
Well let's see, he could be getting info on the number of victims, where they would be transported to for medical attention. Help the police identify them, if needed. Alert the UGA staff of what was happening and who might be involved. And help get info to the families, without them having to read it in the newspaper. Honest to God do you think this is unique to UGA?
This is just incredibly weak. Why does this guy need to talk to police during their initial investigation about any of that? Players not involved in the wreck were already there so they know who is in the car. Even if that wasn’t the case they all likely had ID on them. Why does he need info on number of victims from the responding police instead of the other players just telling him what happened? Why does he need to know where they are being transported? He doesn’t need to talk to police responding at the scene to let staff know what was happening. Why would he need to be at the scene of the crash to get info to the families when he could just use his contacts to make sure the news got to family first? Yeah, as I said above this happens at other schools and it’s bad there too. Seriously, the police can handle this type of stuff for everyone else but as soon as UGA football is involved this guy has to coordinate everything? Come on
Your too smart to not understand,so it's an act or just straight up trolling. And how exactly you know who was there at the scene?
That info is out there as to who was there. Players and friends were all headed to a specific location and some were behind the wreck. Man, what you said just doesn’t make sense. This guy was not critical to the police doing their jobs properly to the point he needed to be actively involved in the early investigation.
Who ever said he was there to help the police? He was there to help UGA understand what had happened and relay that information to the university. But you know that.
As a fellow member of the State Bar of Georgia, I am in agreement with @striker42 concerning the ‘ethical’ issue.
Go dawgs
So, just why do YOU think he was there?
The AJC. has intimated there belief by referring to the “cozy” relationship between Gantt and the police which reeks of innuendo as to an attempt to influence them….is that really what you believe!?
It sees to me that you have been presented with several viable reasons by several posters herein as to why Gantt would call the police chief and why the police chief would contact the on-scene investigators as to the fact that he was coming…..
But you continue to state that his actions were unethical….and that there was nothing wrong with the way the AJC reported this incident.
Unless he was attempting to seek complicity on the police’s part to cover up this tragedy , I don’t see any act taken on his part as “unethical “.
At the most, he was doing his job….at the least he was acting out of concern.
However, I do have a problem with the chosen way that this was reported so early in the process by the AJC.
St. Yale....at this point you are kind of making a fool of yourself. Probably best you gracefully back out and not continue this obtuse attack on the system.
Let me dumb it down for you. We are both speaking to the facts thay he called the police chief and showed up to the scene. Those are the facts. After that it is your opinion that he did something unethical. It is my opinion that he did not do anything unethical. There’s not one shred of evidence that he did anything wrong. NOT ONE THING. Seems like you are part of the population that if you scream something loud enough then surely you’re right. Thankfully I and many don’t give in to the BS shenanigans. Let me be clear you are wrong
Merits to both sides of the argument - however using one article or one incident to label something as ethical/unethical or coziness/just doing his job is a little far fetched. Using one example to form an argument, in general, is pointless and generalizing - let’s move on.
“Thankfully I and many don’t give in to the BS shenanigans”
