He looks great. May need to put on some weight -- officially listed right now at 167. But he looks like a promising "lightning" back /return specialist in the Cook/McIntosh tradition.
The embarrassment of riches continues. Tovani Mitchell (RB '24) has very good hands. ON3 thinks we're still in the running Jerrick Gibson, the No. 1 RB in 2024, but I wonder if signing Phillips is a sign that the coaches aren't optimistic about Gibson.
I don't know that he could take the abuse in the SEC as a RB rright now, but give him a couple of years in our strength and conditioning program and he could.
I could defenitely see him used in the slot or a few times a game on swing passes or wheel routes. I don't know that we've ever had a guy at his position with that type speed.
Maybe even line him up on one side and Arian on the other with LAdd in the slot and just say go, and watch the defense mess themselves.

Lol...did ya forget about Herschel? Competed in Olympic trials? Had sprinters speed, with Larry Czonka power? Carried the ball, 30 to 40 times per game?
Maybe he's the fastest back YOU ever saw at UGA. But, I saw the Unicorn play, in HS. I'd put Herschel against ANY back you've EVER seen. Lol...or, are we just talking about normal RBs? If that's the case, I'll let the hype slide.
In any case...it's about time we got some flash in the backfield. It's been a while since I saw a breakaway back, run with power. I just hope, he's as tough as Walker was.
All kidding aside...this was a very informative article, Jeff. Good job, on laying out the recruiting landscape.

But remind me again - Which one of Herschel's parents won a gold medal? I can't remember exactly. Was it Willis? Or Christine Walker?
I'm not trying to be overly coy or clever. I certainly understand what you mean here with No. 34 and the vast shadow he casts over college football history.
The key phrasing I was looking for while dialing up this story to pay great respect to the legend of "The Goal Line Stalker" was that UGA has never brought in a RB with the athletic background that Phillips has here.
Especially not when he was still in high school. I can't think of a single RB that was clocking a 10.43 and a 4.28 in high school AND also had parents that accomplished so much in NCAA track and on the world stage. It just doesn't happen.
That's what stood out to me here.

@JeffSentell ...Lol...I understand the overlying point you were making and you're right. His genetic background would make him a thoroughbred, unlike any UGA RB before him.
My minor, but relevant point was, you don't have to be a thoroughbred to be fast, physical and tough. So....why does it matter?
Walker did it from a small South Georgia community with nobody in a 25 mile radius having any substantial athletic background. Now...his kids have a little background and can tout their genetics...and so on. He was a great example, to make my point.
