Yup. I don't see Bobo as a panic move or an impulse buy.

Conor you read my comment from yesterday morning and wrote this didn't you? Lol thats alright, I am glad I looked it up and seen how most of the on field coaches were born in GA.

Even though he played HS in Texas, you didn't mention Schumann being born in Valdosta too.

Smart has set out to build a coaching staff that is centered around the state of Georgia, thus harnessing its awesome power and forming the foundation of a dominant program for years to come... but only on offense? I don't know that I buy that.

Yes, of course "locking down" the state is important. But I think the current offensive coaching staff is a reflection of how things have just happened to come together at this point, especially considering Smart's own ample connections to the state and region. Bobo played at Georgia, already had a substantial career as a coach here, and was already on staff when Monken left. McClendon also played here and was beginning to be seen as something of a hot commodity right around the time Georgia happened to be looking for a new WR coach. Both of those hires made sense without the need for any bigger theme behind them. Meanwhile, McGee and Hartley have been here for a while, since before anyone could say their hiring was part of any larger plan to build an entire staff of Georgia allstars. That just leaves Searles.

So yeah, I do think it's probably more coincidental than deliberate. Even with recent hires, Smart has shown that he has an eye for talent and programmatic "fit," and he doesn't really care where it comes from. Five years from now, I could easily see us having only one or two offensive coaches with any meaningful historic ties to the state - like we currently do on the defensive side.
