I think it's very telling when it's said that UGA's workouts are more intense than NFLs. I wish more NFL teams would realize that the players we produce are a much higher quality than many other Universities.
I'll never understand how NFL teams can select players from such weak teams and conferences. How can you possibly know how good a player is from a school that plays teams that are barely above high school level. Any 4 star QB combined with a 4 star WR could have unbelievable stats playing against teams that have unranked safeties and defenders. Practically pitch-and-catch.
Georgia players compete not only against tough teams (no comment on our schedule difficulty this year LOL), but against talented teammates also fighting for their spot. I'm sure a lot of these "basketball schools" would pretty much redesign their offense around one or two star players.
Must be talking about the Falcons... lol. Just kidding. And it is true. But some teams only want the college superstars. Then swing for the fences and hope for diamonds in the rough.
Having the #1 recruiting class on 5/3 is pretty meaningless. BTW according to Rivals UGA has the #5 recruiting class in '24. It has been a slow spring for UGA recruiting while other schools have been adding players of late. Similar to the last 2 years for UGA recruiting.
The overall success of the '24 class will come down to how well UGA is able to recruit the top players in GA. 9 of the top 48 players in the country in this class are from the State of GA. 3 of those 9 are already committed to out of state schools.
McConkey and Bullard were members of the '20 and '21 classes, respectively. Camps and workouts were pretty much discontinued during that period. Making evaluations and ratings difficult. BTW of the #1 ranked (Rivals) '20 class, 7 (28%) transferred out. Of the #5 ranked '21 class, 3 (15%) transferred out.
As the QB's from the '24 class are committing one by one, UGA has a lot riding on Dylan Raiola. I understand Raiola wanting to see the "new" UGA O, in operation, before committing. But the longer it goes to his commitment the bigger the USC NIL chest grows and the less time UGA has to build a class around the QB.
Some GM's get it, some don't. Usually the one's that don't don't last long. Dallas and Atlanta come to mind. In '94 Jerry Jones drafted a player from Sonoma St in the 2nd rd that ended up in the NFL HOF. Every year since he has tried to "outsmart" everyone else by drafting guys he thinks could be the next Larry Allen. They never are. Dimitroff tried doing that as well. Cost him his job.
I see where last year's SB team Philly drafted 2 UGA guys, traded for another UGA guy, drafted an AL guy and signed Jaden Hazelwood as a FA. Having a lot of SEC guys has worked out well for Philly.
