It would stink to not play Auburn and Tennessee (as well as Florida, of course) every year. Just my humble fan opinion.

I feel really bad for other teams that have to play Alabama and Georgia every year (Auburn...ouch)

I would have no problem with getting rid of the permanent opponents all together. So you play a team every other year instead of every year. Not a big deal. Never understood the Auburn “rivalry” anyway.
I prefer the 9 game conference model. That way we play FL and AUB every year. Under the 8 game conference model, we would only play FL. Obviously, AUB would get AL as their annual opponent.
The Auburn rivalry goes way back… Vince Dooley played for Auburn…Pat Dye played for Georgia… but it goes back sooo much further. The game is literally The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. The first game was played on February 20, 1892, and the two schools’ football teams have played annually since 1944. 😉
For the advertising execs, it’s not about the football, but how many people are watching. The BIG10 has a higher population base compared to the SEC. Tex and Okla adds a higher % than Vandy, ole miss, etc. those northern schools have a much larger alumni base if I remember. But I’m sure some crack stat-head will provide the “facts”.
