ATHENS — Georgia went toe-to-toe with the best pitcher in the nation and rallied in the bottom of the ninth to take LSU to extra innings, but it wasn’t enough.

I pull for my Dawgs in any sport, but this team doesn’t deserve to go to the postseason. They don’t need any other slim reason to keep this coach any longer.
I'm as big of a DAWG fan as there is, but..even if UGA gets lucky, and somehow manages to win the last 2 games against LSU, they still don't deserve a tournament berth with 12 possible SEC wins. Stricklin has had ample time to field a winner, but all I read from him are excuses for losing. UGA hasn't been relevant in college baseball since 2008.. The last time UGA made the CWS with David Perno as coach. Without a change, it will be several more years before the DAWGS make it to the CWS. It's glaringly obvious Scott Stricklin is not the answer.
After the recent "betting scandal" at Auburn (or Bama)...and UGA's recent propensity for late inning collapses...you have to wonder if there isn't an underground College Baseball "betting ring". If you had one or two pitchers off of each team "on the take" and a group of clients willing to put "big money" on a College Baseball game/series...you'd really have something.
Who...where is the Dawgs "Pitching Coach"? Something is wrong with some of the pitchers in that bullpen. I could've thrown better pitches on some of those Mizzou HRs, when I was 14-15 yrs old.
You're right. It's not like, when...the football Dawgs couldn't quite get over the hump with Mark Richt...they fired him and hired Smart. Not like that at all. Strickland doesn't win...Richt did.
But, similar to the fact, Richt never figured out the defensive side of the football...Stricklin doesn't seem to have a clue about pitching. If he doesn't figure it out, soon...he's destined for the trash heap with the rest of UGA's former Cinderella wannabes.
One day...maybe the AD will figure out a few other sports, as well. Seems like, ever since UGA started competing in the CFP...the rest of the Athletic Department is in "complacency mode" and resting on their laurels. What happened to the UGA sports that used to go well every year.... Gymnastics, Women's Basketball, Golf, etc.??? They're going in the wrong direction, in those sports, too.
It is time to move on from Coach Strickland after this season. He has not done much with the baseball team during his time in Athens.
This story of Stricklin's tenure is repeated over and over. It's like Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown. We get really close and we're fooled into thinking this time it will end differently. Unfortunately, it never does. The team plays hard, but pitching and injuries are always their undoing. It's easy to blame the coach for all of the woes, but you can't continue to do this if you're serious about competing for baseball championships in the SEC. Go Dawgs!
Last night was a microcosm of the last few seasons. The Dawgs got a miracle to be able to tie the game, then blew it AGAIN. The lead runner gets on in the 11th-what next? Ask ANYBODY. YOU BUNT TO ADVANCE THE RUNNER. Do we? Nope. Also, in the 11th, Marsh walks the ballpark and gets out of it by some miracle. Do you bring him back to pitch in the 12th? OF COURSE NOT, but we do, and guess what happens? All of this is on Strickland. He often leaves pitchers (esp relievers) in WAY too long, with disastrous results. The team plays hard and never gives up, but the coaching lets them down repeatedly—time to move on from this coaching staff. The players deserve better.
I agree with you @BigDawg61; it does seem that since we started winning big in football, the rest of the Athletic Department is just "going along to get along." A big win here and there in men's and women's basketball, maybe something exciting in tennis for a moment. Track seems solid but no one is all geeked up about it, and their facilities are still lacking. What gives? It's clearly not money. Why don't we try to win in "all" sports? And I mean, REALLY try to win. Even if Stricklin gets fired, I highly doubt we're going to bring in someone who can really get us over the top and keep us there. We'll just have a new person in charge, but not necessarily a better person. I just don't understand it. Go Dawgs!
Seriously...Lol...I knew a few Great coaches, back when I played. One of em was Andy Train...a former Savannah Brave. Great Coach and Great Man. I felt he deserved to be mentioned, so forgive me for a "name-drop"...I hate it when that happens. Lol
The point is...people that play the game...know who the "Great Coaches" are. They aren't hiding. Just ask around the HS/College Baseball circuit. You'll find your guy. If he doesn't elevate "pitching" to a #1 priority...then he might make for a good Assistant Coach...but, not a HC.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE PITCHING...TO WIN!!
And, a "whisperer" to teach em when to go inside on the hands, with a slider or fastball...when throw outside off the corner...on the corner...up around the eyes...etc, etc, etc.. Is the "Catcher-to-Pitcher" communication adequate.
Did ya get that, Stricklin??? No more gimme home runs. Hell...I coulda' hit some of those floaters over the middle out of the park, myself. There are pitchers in "rec league" and high school, that are coached up better, on the mound. You ARE...The University of Georgia! Play like you know it, darn it. Lol...frustrating to watch.
