I understand Kirby's concern, but since the Top 4 Conference Champions get a BYE the first round of the playoffs, then I think it is a mute point. Win the SEC Championship game and you will get a breather since the SEC Champion should be one of the Top 4 teams in the playoffs. Now Lose it, then you're probably talking a longer road to hoe...rightfully so.

Great for the SEC winner. A unfair disadvantage for the SEC loser. SEC loser will be playing a team off a 2 week break. So you make it to the SECCG and lose, come off probably your toughest game of the year and you have to play a team that hasn't had to play in 2 weeks.

But that's what you get with the 12 team playoff (money grab). All the conference championship losers will be disadvantaged.

Makes you wonder if the conference championship games will continue at all. The reward (bye) vs risk (extra game - short prep time) doesn't justify playing it. By NOT making the SECCG you have 2 weeks to get healthy and prepare.

The SECCG means a lot of money for the SEC. Would the SEC put their conference's 2nd best team behind the 8 ball for an extra buck? Would UGA administration throw the City of Athens and the State of GA under the bus to line their own pockets (AD Josh Brooks raise and extension) by continuing WGOCP? Yes and yes. Money rules.

I know it won't happen because of the money, but it would be better for Power 5 football in the 12 team playoff era to drop back to 11 regular season games or possibly start the season one week earlier to allow a championship conference game followed by a 2 week layoff before the loser of that championship has to play its' next game.
