No program has developed defensive linemen of late like Georgia has. The Bulldogs have seen four Tray Scott products go in the first round of the last two drafts.

I would argue there has not been a position coach in college football that has come further in his own professional development in the past six years than Tray Scott.
I trust Coach Scott almost as much as I do Coach Smart. Both coaches are relentless and produce at an elite level! In six short years Coach Scott has gone from an ACC afterthought assistant to the premier defensive line coach in all of football, perhaps the best of all position coaches. The D-line is going to be just fine!
Agree 100%! And not only Coach Scott, but TE Coach Hartley, and LB, Co-DC Schumann aren't too shabby themselves. Kirby made great hires when he added those 3 to his staff. All were relatively unknowns at the time they were hired by Kirby. While Coach Scott did have several years of coaching experience under his belt, I don't think he had the same impact at the others schools, that he has had at UGA. Our DAWGS are blessed with a great group of coaches to teach these young men..GoDAWGS!
What a great opportunity to not only work with Tray Scott but also to work with Schumann, Muschamp and Smart all top notch defensive guys. It's crazy that you could come in as a Freshman and contribute immediately due to attrition. I wonder if Norton wishes he had not left now. I was sad to see him go. We really need 4 or 5 guys this year.
Hopefully we can land some of these other dudes. We can sell them immediate playing time which is something we were not able to do a couple years back.
Position of need is certainly the Def line next year... 4 or 5 studs are crucial to sign in Dec and Jan. Don't be surprised if Kirby and his Def gurus don't' go out and get one or two stud transfers to come in and start Winter workouts in January if there is attrition with lower class players going pro.

Bill Norton was going into his 5th year - he has 2 years of eligibility left due the pandemic - with absolutely no chance of starting. At all. Norton has 2 rings and a UGA degree. My guess: he will give it one last shot then enter the draft. Sound logic: he may be a potential NFL 4th round pick stuck behind a bunch of future 1st and 2nd round picks in Athens. Also, if he can't get into the starting lineup for a unit that ranked #126 (out of 131) in scoring defense last year and make an impact against Pac-12 OLs then it is time to get that "life after football" plan going right now because waiting until his 6th season to finally crack the starting lineup as a 24 year old competing against the 2nd and 3rd year players on UGA's depth chart wouldn't work out any better.
I hear what you are saying but he would of gotten a lot of playing time this year. Also, we have had backups get drafted and an injury or 2 away from starting if he had stayed. I wish him the best but being a star on a a team at the bottom doesn't sound like a sure fire way to get drafted.
Regardless, bottom line is we need some guys to immediately come in and contribute which is hard to find on the DL when you are comparing 18 year olds to 21 and 22 year old men.
