Why is Tennessee "a good team that can make the CFP"? How 'bout South Carolina? Are they a good team that can make the playoffs...with their "Heisman Candidate QB"? Lol...seriously what's your point? Bama did much more than "stub their toe"...IMO. They could've easily lost 4 or 5 games in each of the last 2 years...against teams that most consider "out-manned" and "out coached".
Do you think LSU and Brian Kelly, coulda' slipped one by Saban like they did last year...back in, say...2020? Bama's been in a downward spiral for a few years, now. Some can see, most appear unable to.
Saban is victim to the same disease that took out most of the Greats. "Success"...and..."time" have eroded his Program down to the bedrock. He has to rebuild...again...to get back to the earlier version of Bama Football. The good news is, his talent pool is deep.
Right now, there's not a Team or Coach operating in UGA's orbit. Nobody's saying that can't change. But, like UGA...they're gonna have to prove it on the field and not in the paper. That's just how it goes.
The Dawgs are entering this year, "as if". As if...they never won a Natty. And, they're actually in better shape than they were over the last 2 years. I WISH I could find somebody, willing to put money on Bama. Lol
Cole Cubelic is highly overrated… he is consistently wrong.
Good for him...he fits right in, with the rest of em. They're just "millionaire squirrels" tryin' to get a nut...which is why their heads are always in the sand or up their butts. 🤣🤣🤣
Look, the rumors of Alabama's demise, may be GREATLY exaggerated. Do they still strike fear in their opponents? I would say yes. Are their recruiting classes and roster in the top 5 or so? Yes. So for anyone to overlook Alabama, would be foolish. Sure they have issues but don't we all? Their OL and QB may be big issues, especially if they cannot run block well.
Does Saban know how to win with a very strong defense, with a game manager QB and at just the right time at any point during the game dial up a deep one and then, run the ball through the opponents will in the 2nd half and its game over? Absolutely. They might go lose 1 or undefeated during the regular season.
That being said, they better bring all that and their A-game if they want to beat this NEW BREED of Dawgs! Because the New Breed is at a higher level that Bama must match blow for blow. And Bama wants to run this year? Guess what UGA is best at? Stopping it! Could be a heavyweight match come seasons end!
But are they has-beens? I don't think so. But, are they the machine Kirby has built and is operating? Nope. But can can still beat any team in the country. I would say yes. They haven't fallen that far that fast. If they do not screw up and the other team does, absolutely yes. They haven't fallen that far, just a touch, but at the same time and it compounds their slight fall and that is Kirby and UGA have s RISEN. Significantly. In some ways making it look like some of Bama's slipping may be partially due to Kirby not being there anymore. Along with OL and some injury issues.
Regardless, Kirby has elevated UGA to Alabama's heights, their previous heights and now they must face a hungrier version of themselves that is firing on all cylinders in all areas. That absolutely makes their road to hoe much tougher every year.
Maybe Saban is running out of gas too. Maybe he just had some things happen though. Maybe...he misses his foundational top defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and cannot replace him and his impact. If so, then maybe Bama's slight fall in permanent.
Huh? So if Bama beats Georgia for the SEC title, they were better than us all year, minus a quarter. But if we beat them for the national title, we weren't even better than them for that whole game?
Team A won each of the last two national titles. Team B won neither of them, and didn't even play for one of them. Team A was more highly ranked than Team B for the vast majority of those two seasons, and sent more players to the NFL. To assert that Team A was not the better team for those two years is really reaching, to put it politely.
Like BigDawg61, I'm not sure what your point is here. Part of my argument was that most everyone does still take Alabama seriously as a playoff contender.
I question your readiness to just assume that both Bama coordinators are going to jump right in and fix everything in year 1. But at least you pointed to something that has changed in the Bama program to support your argument, which is more than I can say for Herbstreit, Cubelic, etc.
"That said, the run has to end at some point. Three-peats are virtually unheard of in college football and the Bulldogs will face no shortage of competition next season, both inside and outside of the SEC."_____FANSIDED
FYI...I ran across an article on "Fansided", regarding a statement made by Aaron Murray. He said that USC could overtake UGA this year. But, that's not really what this post is about. It's about some of the very biases we've been discussing.
Above is an excerpt from the article that highlights everybody's real bias. It's the "Law of Averages" thing. Nobody's really won a 3-peat...in CFB History. It kinda reminds me of the stories I heard surrounding Roger Maris and Hank Aaron before they eventually broke longstanding MLB Records. There were fans and people in baseball, that revered the original record holder...Babe Ruth. And, simply, did not "want" to see the record broken. It wasn't made easy on em by anybody.
I believe the Dawgs are facing the same phenomena. A lot of people don't "want" to see that record go to the Dawgs. Lol...No pun intended. Or, anybody else, for that matter. Cause once a team lays claim to the 3-Peat. It won't be the Unicorn Record anymore. That distinction will shift to the 4-Peat. Until UGA breaks that in '24.
I don't think Kirby's planning on giving that trophy back, anytime soon. CFB has never seen anybody quite like Kiby Smart. And, they darned sure haven't seen a team like the one he built. They're like the Navy Seals of College Football. Get sime.
They know, if UGA gets the 3-peat...there will be a monumental shift in CFB and more specifically the SEC landscape and power vector. One that can't be topped for at least 4 years. In a 12-team playoff, no less. The "odds" for a 3-peat will change significantly, next year. Forget about a 4-peat. That'll be a fantasy...a pipe dream.
Who thinks OSU, USC, MICH or Bama will be able to 3-peat...much less 4-peat (which is not out of reach for the Dawgs), anytime soon?. Some of the heavy hitting "Gum Flappers" don't...which is why some of these guys are throwin' shade at UGA.
What's funny is...in the "CFP Era"...their "opinions" and polling don't mean near as much as it used to. So, there's not much they can do about it, except secretly pull against UGA and hope they stumble.
The "UGA 3-Peat detractors", won't be able to use the Minnesota precedent to throw shade on the accomplishment, for very obvious reasons...once you look into how they were "named" Champion. That's why you haven't heard a hundred stories about it. It doesn't help their "Bulldog Depreciating Narrative".
The Gophers Championship amounts to the same thing UCF did a few years back...IMO. They went undefeated and declared themselves "Champion", because they weren't invited to the dance. Lol
Minnesota was barred from postseason competition by the BIG10...and, did not go to a Bowl.
Alabama, on the other hand...was also undefeated...AND, won the Sugar Bowl. Yet an obscure Illinois Professor with a "Mathematical Formula" picked a BIG10 Team that played the likes of...drum roll...University of Chicago. Lol...yeah, they were Champs.
This is probably the biggest thing. I think you nailed it. It is inconsistent player development and a fall off in the performance of his offensive and defensive coordinators. Saban had an unbelievable run of OC's and DC's. Part of that success was Kirby himself who was there for 4 of the 6 natties under Saban. Since Kirby has left they have dropped a notch overall on defense except for the year they had that ex-Tennessee coach. It's not the players since their players are still the best recruits around (actually 2nd best now behind us). It is lack of player development and it has shown.
Kirby is the reason for Sabans powerhouse teams when he started and as much as it pains ESPN and the rest of Rammer Jammer Nation they will have to come to grips with this. He gone now, he gone to Georgia.
Now we play them next year in Tuscaloosa which will actually be a rebuilding year for us. We will be young on the OL and DL and at ILB next year. So I do expect a dropoff with our ridiculous schedule however we still might sneak into the playoffs next year if we can get through the schedule with only 2 losses. I think this year we should win it and it will be disappointing if we do not. In 25 and 26 we will have powerhouse teams as well and should be in contention. 24 is the great unknown though. If somehow we beat them in their house in 24 with our worst team in a 6 year period then you will truly know the tide has turned for good. I used to be more polite about my view on Bama but I'm sick of the medial narrative so screw those guys.
I don't think anyone is counting out Alabama. As long as Nick Saban is the coach and they keep recruiting like they have, they will be in the conversation for a National Championship. The difference is that they no longer are thought to be invincible. Ranking them in the top 2-4 range is definitely not counting them out. It's just recognizing that now they are among the best and not the best. UGA currently holds that title.
Of course not. I don't think you can count out about 10 to 15 teams. At least, on my radar...there's about 10 to 15 teams. Alabama is one...South Carolina and GA Tech are 2 teams I have on the bubble.
Both Carolina, and GA Tech will be sporting better QB's than Bama, Tennessee and Clemson.. IMO. Spencer Rattler and Haynes King, as well as their offenses...were very impressive in their respective Spring Games. And, both are experienced and coming into their own.
The biggest question marks with those 2 teams, IMO, is...how effective the defensive will be?...and, how their midseason depth will look?. I haven't dug into those 2 things, yet. But, I intend to...I like what I've seen so far.
But, there's only 1 that I would "count IN", right now...and, that's UGA. Lol...and, not just because I'm a Dawg Fan. I call it...like I see it.
