Good stuff. It's amazing that none of Dooley's teams were preseason top-5, not even the 1981 or 1982 teams.

I agree on the format. I use an iPad and the new format is not as good as the old one…..at least that’s the case for me. Go Dawgs!!!
I like the new format but I use a computer. I don't know anyone who uses an iPad anymore but my mom and she is 80. I could see how that would s t i n k if you are an iPad user.
I agree...I could've sworn they were ranked up there in '81, '82 and/or '83 at a minimum.
He did say AP Poll, though. Maybe it was UPI...or one of the lesser polls. Anyway...they should have been. But, that just kind of highlights the bias of the Yankee media in the old "Polling Days".
IMO...a lot of the so-called "Champions" of that bygone era are products of a lie. In time, the shine will wear off of those championships as people begin to see them for what they were. "A little white lie", to keep the bucks rolling in.
The money generated from Bowl games and "media hype", helped build the game into what it is today...with a 12-team playoff. So, I don't complain...much. Lol...until they start talking about Champions and Polls (and Professor's with formulas) of "That Era of CFB".
In the 30's...ya think maybe UGA...or any SEC Team...would've won more Natty's had a UGA or GSU "Math Professor" been given the responsibility of "naming" a National Champion?. The one that named Minnesota "Champ", did it from a school in Illinois....3 times?. BS!!!

Yale is the only true 3 time champion. They actually won the championship 4x and 5x but that was in the 19th century when the game was more like rugby and the players topped out at barely 200 lbs if that.

Richt really elevated the program and built a solid base. He just couldn’t manage that elusive national championship. Kirby built on what Richt had accomplished. Gooooo Dawgs!
You're absolutely right. Mark Richt changed the culture at UGA for the better. He deserves enormous credit for where the Dawgs are, with respect to Brand, recruiting and culture.
That being said...Kirby Smart is the architect and engineer...of the best College Football program "I" have ever seen. It is self-sustaining and perpetual...with former Dawgs on the coaching staff...Smart, Bobo, McClendon and Muschamp.
If you were in High School wouldn't you want to be part of it? UGA..."Catch the Fever". Lol
