Jeff, I knew when Kirby arrived that he would recruit successfully. I knew he would stack layers of talent. I knew that, but I had no idea. Kirby has vastly exceeded my expectations. By any metric, by any standard, Kirby has exceeded. He's gone beyond fulfilling my wildest dreams. He's surpassed my fantasies and imagination when it comes to recruiting. That's not all Kirby's done, of course, but recruitment is perhaps the most fundamental of the building blocks.

This summary article blows my mind, Jeff, as does the previous article about the offense. Thanks for all the details. Thanks for the bird's eye view, too. Great stuff.

I can't wait to see these Dawgs take the field.

    Go, Dawgs!

Go back and put the corners at 10 please. This group is all world.

I'm starting to wonder if a lot (not all by any means), but a lot of Saban's success was Smart. I get it that Saban won before Kirby and twice after but his teams had a distinctive defensive edge when Kirby was there.

I think it might be fair to say that Kirby is the best defensive mind of college football in the last 20 years at least.

Who would not want to come play for the best defensive mind in college football?

Kirby only has one thing left to figure out on defense. That is how to get referees to call holding on the OL in a playoff game.

Agreed... I expected big-time recruiting, but never imagined at this ridiculous level. Another pleasant surprise is the extent of his culture building and buy-in he gets, especially with respect to work ethic and compete. I think he was a business major, but is clearly a student of psychology, as well. And finally, Kirby has really evolved as a fully capable game-time leader. I have to admit, his first year or two gave me some pause in that realm, but that's to be expected of a first time head coach on such a big stage. He seems more comfortable (though still intense) on the sidelines now... and am, too! Go Dawgs!

Biggest difference between those 4 great HCs is Kirby is actually a personable, likeable fellow. Go Dawgs!
