ATHENS — If you saw Kirby Smart on the team bus following Georgia’s 27-20 win, you’d have thought he was listening to Phoebe Bridgers rather than enjoying a victory over rival Auburn.

We're going to have to fill gaps and change schemes on the D-line. We also must protect the edge better than we did against Auburn. Kentucky's D-line is stout and held the Gators to 69 yards of rushing. As much as I love Edwards, we really need a tank like Milton back asap.
Let's hope the prep for this next game-- both coaches and players-- improves over the next few days. Go Dawgs!
"So how does Georgia fix this before Saturday’s game? Georgia won’t be bringing in any more players and other than Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Georgia’s front seven hasn’t been one of the units riddled with injuries."........make sure every gap is filled and always have a spy.....it was difficult to know where the play was going because the neither Auburn QB's knew where they were going to run......wildcat every play.....run where the opening exist. I expect a totally different game against The Wildcats......Leary will try his best to pass so we need to pressure him. His go to alternative will be Davis....a spy will keep him in check forcing Leary to go to less reliable play makers....FAN noise must be deafening and I have no doubt it will be....lastly, we can't spot The Mildcats point with turn overs......if we play smart.....no pun intended, play clean and hit hard, The Dawgs will give notice that we are The Real Deal!
Contain..the..edges. Too many times, bad angles on outside runs allowed Auburn to get around us.
Or ... they could just outscore them?
Good grief people. 2021 and 2022 aren't coming back. The conditions that led to UGA being that loaded on the front seven, which included a lot of local (Florida, FSU, Miami, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia Tech) and national (Texas, USC) being recruiting disaster areas don't exist anymore. Look at - for example - how FSU is cleaning up in south Georgia. The pandemic year effect is also mostly gone - this is the last year for former UGA QB JT Daniels and a bunch of other guys - plus there are the effects of the portal and NIL. So UGA is no longer going to have a "championship defense" that is going to hold nearly every opponent way below their statistical averages on offense.
But here's the deal: you don't need a defense like that to win a title anyway. Alabama didn't in 2020. LSU didn't in 2019. Clemson didn't in 2016. Auburn didn't in 2010, FSU didn't in 2013. Instead, they all had "good enough" defenses plus offenses that can outscore people. The question: can UGA field a big time offense? If they can't, then that is a problem.
They have Brock Bowers. They have a bunch of complimentary pieces including Ladd McConkey, a senior and a junior RB, plus upperclassmen (including 2 transfers with starting experience) at the other 2 WR spots. Their interior OL has everyone back and the RT is a 5 star 1st round pick prospect. And they have a 4th year player at RB. And they have a redshirt junior QB who is throwing for 300 yards a game.
No, this isn't Alabama 2020, LSU 2019 or Clemson 2018. But the good news: none of the other contenders this year apppear to be as prolific as those offenses were either. Alabama had a future NFL Pro Bowl RB, 3 WRs who were 1st and 2nd round picks, a very good OL and a decent NFL starting QB in 2020. Ohio State "may" have that by the end of the season if Kyle McCord can get near the level of his 3 first round pick predecessors at Ohio State. If that happens, good for Ohio State. But Carson Beck is playing at a high level already and has just as much opportunity to improve as McCord does!
I am thinking that if Kendall Milton plays - and if Bobo gives Dillon Bell the snaps at WR that Bell was getting at tailback - UGA should score enough to beat Kentucky no matter how many yards Davis rushes for. Florida's main problem in that game was Davis, yes. But they also had only 2.5 yards per carry running the ball and their QB - a Big 10 refugee - didn't reach 250 yards passing and threw a pick. (An actual pick that was his fault, not one like Beck was stuck with Saturday that wasn't his fault at all.) Give the Gators a better OL and a better QB like UGA has and they have a real shot in that game.
Bobo and Kirby have a lot of ties to south Ga. Shoudnt let all the best players ride off to Tallahassee.
All good points @thadec . If our offense can come through with those explosive plays that we've just barely been missing on -- like the first quarter incomplete bomb to Delp against Auburn -- maybe we can just beat them down 38-31 or something. I'm like you, despite all the TALK about knowing they can fix things, it's going to take more than just snapping their fingers to get it done. At this point in the season, it's clear we don't have the defensive studs of previous years, or even that we THOUGHT we had THIS YEAR. So the offense is just going to have to step up. I hope it can. Go Dawgs!
If the offense will play 4 quarters that would help a lot.
Out score them would be Great. But if Kirby says he has a “plan” to improve the run defense, I’d tend to trust him on that as well. You don’t win B2B National Titles by being an incompetent HC !!
I'm starting to feel that the disrespect that is being shown the defense is really starting to grate on the guys in that locker room. I feel like we will get their absolute best effort Saturday Night.
This might be that game where we silence the doubters.
