Nutrition Appreciation
So my youngest Dawg pup has RSV; as she’s napping in my arms I’m scrolling social media and see an interesting post linked to the UGA nutrition dept. it looks like Collier Perno has developed a system (maybe even an app?) that allows our athletes to meal plan based on their nutrition requirements. The program also auto generates a shopping list based on the stores in their geographic area. The post said this is aimed at athletes’ off-times, like breaks at home. The program should help them continue on their strength and conditioning goals instead of experiencing setbacks because they’re not sure what to eat when they’re at home. So cool!
@MikeGriffith story idea for you here…😂

What do you think about giving out a weekly award to players for this? I've heard of it in others programs and it is definitely going over well...
I'm all for health and S&C but when kids are home, they need to eat momma's cookin'.
There's biscuits, then there's Mama's Biscuits!
The older I get the more in tune I am to what I eat and how it makes me feel. I have been loosely doing keto with intermittent fasting Mon-Friday for the last year and it really has made an impact on me. Leaner and more energy. When I do open up the offense a bit and crush some pizza or pasta (Mrs. Chopper is half Italian...) I feel like I ate a cinder block. It's amazing how those carbs make you want to keep going until you are stuffed. Trying to get the kids to listen is a different challenge. The older one has more discipline than me, the younger one can't stay out of the pantry.
I'm 70 now. About a month before my birthday on January 28th I had my first (and hopefully last) heart attack. Before and after my heart attack I pretty much ate anything I wanted except sugary foods: ice cream, candy, cookies, and cake. And no alcohol. Not until my last Doctor's visit where I was told that I had gained 30 lbs over the past 2-3 years that I went next level:
Meal one: an apple, bowl of Raisin Bran, or 1/2 of an almond butter/cream cheese sandwich on whole wheat. The real grainy stuff.
Meal two: Regular meal veggies, rice, meat in moderation like chicken w/o skin or meat substitute such as "beyond meat". At2p or3p. That's it.
You want to test your resolve? Try eating your last meal at 2p.
But I've been sticking with it. Since Sept1, I'm down 20 lbs. Not the best weight loss plan, but it works for me.
My wife's parents had friends from years ago who used to say, you can pay for the food now, or you can pay for the doctor bills later. It's funny that we think so little of nutrition. It controls so much about our lives: health, looks, energy. Most of us owe our good habits to our Mom's and Grandmothers. The regard for the importance of Mom's roles has always been underrated imo, but never more so than now in the US. My wife is the superstar of the family (particularly with the DILs) because she knows how to take care of children at the PHD level.
I'm a fan of IF, too. I've come to believe that being hungry for periods of time, while still having good overall nutrition, is very good for you. I have little pep slogans I say to myself--hunger=happy, hunger=energy, and hunger=healthy. It isn't how we are trained to think, so it takes some work.
Congrats, Mark. I know how tough it is to change one's habits. I can't imagine not eating after 2PM. That's Zen Warrior stuff right there. Keep up the good work and you'll have lots more Dawg games to enjoy.
Thanks Donniem. If you're still working or younger with kids to feed, it's not a practical plan. But when you're retired and less active it's a pretty good plan. 6'1" and started at 220. Currently 200 and aiming for 180 which I haven't been at since my late 20's.
Solid work.
Agree with Chopper. Success is the greatest motivator of all. Keep choppin'.
Similar experience here. I went strict Keto for about year and didn’t realize how addictive some of these carbs and sugars had been. After I “cut the chord” so to speak I actually would get full and satisfied after a meal and had stopping sense. When I later started with sweets, I could eat one cookie or one slice with coffee and stop. Not the whole box or pie. Now mainly low carb and still working pretty good but have to be careful. If eat too many carbs then have to deal with that “cinder block” (good way to describe it) zapping my energy and focus.
I'd pay a subscription fee for this service...
Me too!
I wonder what they would suggest I eat since I have absolutely zero athletic goals or requirements.
