Final grades from Georgia football win over Tennessee
After one play, Georgia football looked to be in trouble. The Volunteers ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run and led 7-0.

Anyone watching replay.... there was an obvious holding call IMO on UT that wasnt called.... holding our LB. On that 1st play of game.
A- Final grade?????
That is ridiculous.
On the road, 1/2 night game, in one of the historically toughest places to play on the road in the SEC, ranked opponent, all the hoopla with Manning and Dolly Parton, Vegas spread showing that most of the money was on UT(opened at 10.5), and for Georgia to demolish them by 4 touchdowns!?!
And everyone knows Georgia could have scored 2 more times in the 4th quarter with their starters but they pulled them, which is completely fine and the right thing to do, score could have easily been 52 to whatever, because UT and their fans were cooked by the 6 minute mark of QTR 3…
That win yesterday is easily a solid A, even A+.
Probably did that just to tee me off with click bait so that I would comment 🙄
5-for-5 in the Red Zone says how dominating we were...9/13 on 3rd downs....6.6 yards per play....and very few penalties which I really like to see. Great play all around. Love seeing some new faces like CJ Allen, Bell, and others stepping up and making their mark.
Bring on them Jackets!!
Final Grade A....UGA played to its potential IMO. I'm with Kirby, give TN the opening score to help TN with morale in a game way beyond TN's ability to deal. LOLOL. Georgia played ab A game!
9/13 on third down included Delps drop. Saturday really was a great performance. The refs missed calls on both sides, thus it seemed like a fairly equal zebra crew
Wow, tough grading on the offensive and defensive lines. O line, even though loosing a starter early on, kept Beck clean all day against a stout Tennessee D line. As far as rushing, it was obvious Tennessee was stacking the box to stop the run, and we still ran for more yards than they have given up per game. UGA was content with passing and did not emphasize the run. Just look at the plays in the red zone from 5 yards in, we were throwing the ball.
As far as the D Line, UGA stopped their potent running game. The 1st big run was not due to the line, but the linebacker missing his gap and the secondary not there to stop the big play. Yes, we had just 1 sack, but that's consistent with our defensive philosophy against a good running QB. Kirby will forgo sacks in order to contain.
I agree with prior posts, A's all around.
“He notched the only sack on the afternoon and should’ve been credited with a tackle for loss as well.”
It seems like all of the opposing offenses try to get the ball out more quickly than normal against the Dawgs defense. If so, that could explain why they don’t get the number of sacks that you would expect from such a talented and aggressive squad. They are incredibly good at putting pressure on the quarterback, and it definitely limits how effective the passing game is. It’s a whole lot of fun to watch, and I’m sure the DB’s appreciate it!
GO DAWGS!
I agree that that first play was on the linebackers and to some extent on the safeties. The line did allow two holes to open, which put the ILB's in a hard spot.
But an LB should have been there to greet him at the second level. Specifically, it seemed that Smael had gone left to plug the hole on the defense's left, while Allen spent too much time tying himself over on the right rather than quickly sliding into that gap in the center. In other words: Very much an experience thing.
Don't get me wrong. I'm in awe of CJ's athleticism, especially his speed -- and he seems to be a quick, willing learner. You just can't expect him to immediately be a perfect fit in JDJ's shoes and to have the instinct to know where Smael's going on the play.
The safeties were less at fault. It was partly bad luck -- you could see Bullard going toward gap behind where CJ should have been. But Wright kind of slanted to his own right, which made the Bullard (or was it Tykee?) overshoot where he had to be.
After that, I was surprised that none of our safeties caught up with Brooks. But then I looked up Brooks' speed: Dude has been clocked as fast at 4.28 on the 40! That's getting into Arian Smith territory. When speed like that gets past the second level and into a footrace ... well, it's no wonder he was gone.
I played for a coach in USAFE that always preached about the intangibles. The Dawgs get an A+++ on intangibles. According to Doc they are undefinable but are the most important aspect of a teams performance. I never exactly figured out what he was talking about.
As far as the QB grade, there is one statistic that should override all current considerations and result in a weekly A+ for Carson Beck. That stat is 3rd down conversion. The Dawgs are the best in America. I realize it is an offensive TEAM accomplishment but without a QB extending procession time by making timely play decisions and executing at a consistent elite level, ..... that stat is much lower and the results is a much lower PPG average and possibly losses. This one stat tells me that Carson Beck is the best QB in America and most worthy of Heisman consideration....factor in he leads an undefeated team in the toughest conference, his QBR is 4th and his completion percentage is 73 and it seems to me to be a "No Brainer"......as long as this remains the reality, CB gets an A+!
After the first play, the defense held them to 3 points. I’d give the defense at least an A minus. Go Dawgs! Wreck tech!
I think i'd downgrade the secondary one notch. I think i noticed three long passes where Milton missed open receivers behind our secondary. Oregon, Wash, Bama QBs wont miss those shots. I'd upgrade the RBs one notch. Even though they didn't get their rushing yards, they effectively picked up every single blitzing defender to keep CB clean. Then on one pass, Tenn only rushed four, our RB slipped through middle of line to set up a key first down catch.
The grade would have been A or A+ if Delp hadn't dropped the pass that was right in his hands and Mondon stayed in the gap on the first play from scrimmage. Concerning Delp this was not the first dropped pass right in his hands. The boy needs work. This week we play GA Tech and ALL attention needs to be focused on the Jackets and drubbing them deep into Grant Field. Go Dawgs!!!
