Georgia football 2024 quarterback room in flux as Carson Beck, Dylan Raiola consider options
ATHENS — There’s only been one actual change in the Georgia quarterback room in the 10 days since its loss to Alabama. Brock Vandagriff entered the transfer portal and exited as a Kentucky Wildcat on this past Wednesday.

Trust not one recruit or roster player in the insanity that is right now college football....
I'm a Beck fan, but this delayed decision is unfair to his teammates, IMHO. It's a definite daisy-chain of events no matter what his decision. Lots of not-in-the-headlines young men will have their prospects whipsawed by the chain-of-events following Beck's decision as well as other high-profile current/prospective transfers' and commits' decisions. ("commits" is a pretty loose term these days, admittedly).
NIL+TP = the death of a 100+ year old sport many of us love. Not saying the new version can't be good, but loyalty (both ways) has traditionally been an American value embodied in college sports.
Some sort of limits on NIL+TP could surely improve the lot of the vast majority of players' who are NOT going to be CFB multi-millionaires...
wondering out loud if the other prominent SEC schools are going through the same craziness? Don't blame the students for grabbing for the gold ring but the NCAA has let this get way out of hand.
Money, money, money, money!
CB could be waiting to see just who we pull out of the portal and whose left after that? I think I would. Get a feel for what you have to work with, if you return.
I really feel sorry for what the coaches are going through right now. Trying to prepare for a bowl game, juggling player departures, question marks, transfer portal, recruiting, early signing day, NIL deals, etc...good grief. Too much to effectively handle at one time.
@MontanaDawg
I'd be willing to try to juggle all of that out for a few million. Call me crazy! But I understand what you're saying. It's chaos!
Dfd, I can not disagree, and with "money" comes pressure......from so called friends, questionable family members, agents who only value their bottom line.....pressure so great that it has never been imagined before....pressure from everyone who could care less about what is right for Carson and Dylan but only what is beneficial to their self interest....pressure that obscures the reality of being true to yourself, keeping the goals that you have set, commitment to your team, your coaches.....pressure that kills every commitment that you've made, only to be rewarded with the real prospect of riding the bench making the practice squad on an NFL team or the improbable task of resurrecting a perennial bottom feeder now that the conference has more than doubled the number of teams with elite credentials.....PRESSURE, my prayer is that Carson and Dylan have the strength of character to endure the pressure....there's a simple solution, just make a public decision!
You get a one time chance at the money in the NFL draft. CB is guaranteed more NIL next year if he returns. If he balls out next year he upgrades his draft status and his signing bonus increases exponentially. THe thing is, does he want to comeback and risk injury or some other waiting QB ( GS) outperforming him in practice? Of course CKS isn't going to start a true Fr. at QB uness forced to by injuries. So, there would just really be one guy to beat out.
If CB truly wants to be given a fighters chance of ever starting in the NFL, he needs to get drated in the top 50. I have no idea where he stands at the moment with that.
It seems like a pretty straightforward decision for Beck to come back. That said, I don't really get the criticism of him for taking his time with it. Wasn't it after the bowl game that all those guys announced they were going to "run it back" for 2021, including the quarterback? As obvious as it seems to most of us, it's still a major life decision that he's being given time to make, like many others before him.
It’s pretty clear what the smart decision for Carson is for all the reasons we are all aware of. Coming back for one more year and being one of the 2 or 3 top QBs in the draft next year is clearly the smart choice. Based on what we have seen this past season, Carson almost always made the right decision. I’m assuming he will do that again and get one more year as a UGA starter and definitely become a first, probably high, round pick for two to three times the signing money.
That’s easy for those of us who have been around a longtime. Admittedly more difficult for the younger folk, but Carson wisely hung around waiting for his starting chance. Waiting one more year appears likely, not to mention wise.
As Dawg fans, our role is to support the young man in whatever decision he makes. He’s a DGD!
