Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Georgia cornerback Daniel Harris enters transfer portal
Georgia cornerback Daniel Harris has entered the transfer portal, becoming the 19th Bulldog to do so to this point.

This is getting ridiculous.
Almost pathotic. UGA defensive backs have formed a conga line. I expected defections but this is beyond the pale. Eighteen bailouts. Is UGA that tough to endure and thrive? Guess I am just jittery...Kirby said we would be surprised. He is right, No more surprises. I know UGA will be okay but these defections are making the sports news.
I do like the transfers in though. My favorite is Trevor Etienne. Explosive back.
Y’all….. this is the new normal for these kids.
the roster is going to be like a game of boggle until after the spring portal window. I ain’t worried because
1) it’s happening at every school
2) we have Kirby and they dont
Not sure Harris was top 200 on Rivals. He was listed at 6'2" and 167 lbs. He was always going to be a developmental project. Saw the handwriting on the wall with the 3 bigger, faster and higher rated CB's in the '24 class. This is how CKS is able to recruit 30 player classes every year.
It's like buying a pan of dirt in Dahlonega.....you hope you're going to strike it rich as you dump it into the pan... with wild eyed dreams you add water and slosh it around and the rocks and debris fall out and sure enough what's left are a few flecks of glimmering gold.....every top 25 football program in America is panning for gold.....First we recruit from HS and Juco, then the TP and NIL just provide the best opportunity to get a great pan of dirt, with practice comes development, hopefully...that's the sloshing around......so year after year the opportunity to build depends on your coaches.....pick a good pan and the glimmering gold remains and the championships opportunities amass.
Everyone of the twenty "Dear John" social media announcements have said the same thing.....and they all left out the obvious....."I was not able to meet the extremely high standards required to remain a Dawg so I'm moving on in search of a more favorable opportunity".....and to me that is a very good thing! The lessons these 20 young men learned at Georgia will benefit them for the rest of their life's and I wish everyone success at what ever they are trying to achieve.....cause despite how hard you try, a lot of glimmering gold gets sloshed out in the "panning" process!
It's a crap shoot for some of these kids. THey get a big time scholarship offer with UGA and they come wide-eyed and bushy tailed(as they should) and they give it their all, but in the end, they're just not good enough to start at UGA. What they are given is the opportunity to compete. Your average run-of-the-mill college you get a scholarship, you like your chances of starting by year 2 or 3 at the most, not so with UGA and some of the big time programs.
THe transfer portal is good in the sense that now some of these players that can't cut it with the big time programs can go elsewhere and play. IT also gives the coaches a second chance to not have to feel stuck with guys that are just benchwarmers. Sort of like: "OK we missed with this kid or that kid, who can we now get that is a proven player.
I remember driving through ALabama a few years ago just before Nick went on his run of NC's. I was listening to a sport talk show out of Birmingham and a guy called in and told the radio host, "we are stacked four deep at every position!" Turns out he was right or close to it. THose days are gone when you had a pracitically all Juniors and Seniors starting at every position, then waiting in the wings were some Sophmores and other almost ready Juniors . and behind them Freshmen and Sophmores.
The conveyer belt assembly line system is done.
And we are getting a ridiculous crop of talent from the portal. Since scholarships are capped any marginal player who opts to enter the portal makes room for more talented players to transfer to UGA. Just look at what Kirby is doing through the portal this year. We could potentially get the kind of talent we have lost to the NFL for another National Championship run.
No big deal. There's another portal slot in April so there could be even more movement. Like. someone has already said, this is the new normal. And it is a good thing for players trying to make it to the next level (NFL). Gotta get playing time, somewhere, if anywhere.
