Yep the transfer portal has changed things a lot. But if you're a player, you'll play and it doesn't matter.

Mykel..not thinking about portal ...right now...said it three times....right now. I bet he transfers. Maybe Schumann can hold him...maybe...stick him out on the edge. He is not performing as he would like and as UGA would like...right now. How would a transfer correct this? Do not see it.

W/his size and athleticism Williams should be bull rushing and blowing by CFB LT's with relative ease. His career, over 2 years, mirrors Travon Walker's 1st 2 years at UGA. Does he make the leap Walker made in yr 3? Walker worked to improve and make the most out of his situation. He went #1 overall. It can be done.

Sounds like he already has 1 foot out the door. Not sure where he can go to have as good a situation as he has at UGA. He looks like the #1 DE and should be in the game in all passing situations. The rest is on him.

U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia Judge John Preston Bailey lifted the 1 time transfer restriction. Now it is to the benefit of would be CFB "star" players to transfer every year and get paid to transfer every year. Based on Judge John Preston Bailey's comments it would appear that he knows very little about CFB and some of the necessary stabilizing factors.

I will never understand why an extra year of free room, board, tuition, training, tutors, stipends, medical care, etc is a "bad" thing for student athletes.

I still say sue the NFL to remove their 3 year restriction on drafting HS players. If HS players want to go to the NFL so be it. IF HS players want to play CFB they will need to abide by the amateur rules for student athletes of the NCAA.

The temptation of the transfer portal will be there twice a year for every player until more limitations are put in place. ALL players will think about the portal now at some point, not just Mykel. We better get used to it and accept it. Mykel is no exception and that does not mean he is going to transfer. He will be a leader on UGA's D next year.

It usually sucks for everyone except the player, other than when the player turns out to not be developing or that just isn't good enough, then you can open up a spot for someone potentially better if they transfer out.

Sometimes things do not work out for whatever reason. Often its that 3rd year though when a player finally reaches expectations on defense and that will be Mykel too IMO. So I hope he stays! I am sure our coaches do too!

But, if you are a really good player and things are behind schedule, that portal will always be very, very tempting. But hopefully he trusts the coaches and the path he is on and stays at UGA and has a monster year in 2024.

As soon as I saw the words "right now" I knew that would be the only thing that some people would focus on.

Well, of course. Because he could have just said, "I'm a Georgia Bulldog and I'm not transferring." Then we would have focused on that. But instead, he said, "right now," and he said it three times, which means that he's not ruling it out. And as a result, we fans are going to focus on that.
