Jack Daniels or Bourbon

A lot of people seem to like bourbons of all levels of quality. I personally like Jack Daniels better but have a few bourbons in the cabinet.

My wife had a bad cold a few weeks ago so I got some Bushmills (standard variety) to make her elixir for sleeping (whiskey, lemon juice, honey), and I took a small sip.
It’s been years since I’ve had JD, and the Bushmills really reminded me of it.
I’m sure I’m not a connoisseur, but the flavor seemed very similar to me.
I've got a bottle of Bushmills in the cabinet for guests but I don't particularly care for it. Tastes like scotch to me and I hate scotch.
When I was a kid we lived in a dry county and my father made hot toddies with moonshine when we had colds.
My grandfather made moonshine for personal use and “ medicinal “ purposes….he also made muscadine wine ….. and acquired taste for sure but excellent if you like sweet wines!
So, I have always had a fondness for “home brew” stories!
I lean more to the whiskey or scotch taste over bourbon and always had some JD around when I could afford it after college. The amber liquids are especially good this time of year. The cold remedy mentioned earlier in this thread works better than most of what's on the pharmacy shelves.
I graduated from Jack Daniels soon after becoming a bourbon sipper because so many relatively inexpensive bourbons taste better to me and the rating services. For the uninitiated three or four that immediately come to mind are Buffalo Trace, Larceny, Knob Creek, Makers Mark , and Elijah Craig. And this list barely scratches [the surface..
I don't really mean to be trashing Jack Daniels because taste is subjective. Just suggesting that when it comes to bourbon, it is good to broaden your horizons a bit.
Dewers tastes great with Coke (better than Maker's imo) or without on the rocks. I know this is about bourbon but MacCallan is pretty good for those that like to sip.
I second your list, those are all on my own go to list and in my cabinet. The first alcohol I ever had was Jack Daniel's when I was 17, so it holds a nostalgic place in my heart. As much as I now love drinking whiskey straight, the smell and taste of a Jack and Coke (diet, now) with a lime in the fall just takes me back and makes me want to yell "Go Dawgs!"
I know many who swear by this drink but...don't buy the premixed stuff in coke cans--most putrid excuse for a whiskey drink I've had in many a year. But then again, taste is subjective.
I haven't even been tempted by that stuff; there's no way it can match the real deal, custom-poured to match the moment!
Aside from the aforementioned cold medicine, we don't mix this class of booze with anything. We're fans of single-malt scotch. Now we're pretty creative with the clear booze like gin.
If you can't mix a bourbon and coke you shouldn't be drinking.
I began drinking bourbon when I was still in high school. Had my first Jack on the rocks in 1978 and it's been my got to ever since. Bourbon is generally to sweet for my tastes but I don't turn it down if a friend offers and I have good bourbon in the cabinet for when someone wants it. I don't have mixers; just ice and spring water.
Now, you’re talking!
Hendricks Gin with Fevertree Elderflower tonic….that’s my go to for my after victory drink! No other tonic comes close in my opinion!
Thumbs up on the Hendricks and Fevertree. The Elderflower is excellent but lately I'm cutting down the sugar and leaning more to the Fevertree light. If you get a chance give The Botanist Gin a try. Well worth the extra and with a squeeze of a Key Lime I'm one happy Dawg.
I wasn't tempted by the stuff either. A six-pack was given to me by a well-meaning house guest bless her heart.
