Arkansas does it again, 4 in a row for the men. LSU Women win the title. They were incredibly deep, so many qualifiers in each of the finals. Some overall great times heading into an Olympic year.

Georgia had some great performances this weekend.

Gold for Christopher Morales Williams in the 400….and a world-leading time this season.

Gold for Mark Minichello in the Javelin.

Gold for Elena Kulichenko in the high jump.

Silver for Micah Larry in the Long Jump

Silver for Kaila Jackson in the 100M

Silver for  Nikolai van Huyssteen in the Pole Vault

Silver for Dominique Mustin in the 400 Hurdles

Silver for Mikeisha Welcome in the Triple Jump

Silver for Stephanie Ratcliffe in the Hammer Throw

Bronze for Ella Rush in the Heptathlon

Points scored; Leah Anderson-Triple Jump, Kaila Jackson-200 (PB), Jehlani Gordon-100 (PB), Aaliyah Butler-400 (school record), Charlotte Augenstein-1500, Kelsie Murrell-Ross-Shot Put, Wesley John-3000 Steeplechase, Alexander Kolesnikoff-Shot Put, Erin McMeniman-Javelin (PB), Men's 4x400, Women's 4x400 (set a school record earlier in the season).

No doubt the new facilities will help with recruiting and performance. Coach CSG needs a couple more years to be on top.

Good showing. It's a tough hill to climb as the SEC, to no one's surprise, is a meat grinder, when it comes to T & F. New facilities will help a lot.

Those 2 ladies from aTm throwing almost 190 feet in jav is awfully impressive. That is quite a throw.

the javelin is an interesting event. I'm not even sure how many times the spear has been "modified" to limit how far it could be thrown. Decades ago folks were coming close to being able to throw it much longer than a football field - so the scientists meddled with the center of gravity or something to restrict its flight potential. 190 feet is indeed a great throw for ladies, especially these days with the modern spear.

Kind of odd - science usually seems aimed to improve performance (shoes, track surfaces, training methods, medical treatments, etc. But in this case it seems the opposite is true.

I remember when the Braves signed a Czech javelin thrower on the long, long shot his skills might translate into throwing a baseball. Never panned out.

Not that long ago a UGA athlete was hit with a thrown spear and almost died.

You are correct. There is an internal weight that was moved closer to the front of the jav to slightly push the nose down over distance after some of those Eastern European guys were almost throwing it onto the other side of the track. My daughter is a D2 track athlete and for perspective the Gulf South Conference ladies champ last year threw 143; The aTm ladies are throwing almost 50 feet farther.

Elija Godwin was speared but not by a thrown javelin. It was 2019 and he was a freshman at the time. "He fell backward onto a javelin that was planted into the ground….he was engaged in a drill which required him to run backwards,” according to police who responded to the scene. The javelin had been “left on the ground at an angle” and Godwin was moving he backed into it. It was actually the rear part of the javelin that caused the injury It struck him just below his shoulder blade and left him with a punctured and collapsed lung. Upon arriving at the scene, rescue workers "grinded off" the part of the javelin that was sticking out of Godwin."

Sorry for the mistake. Glad to know it wasn't a thrown spear. Important to put one's tools away when finished with them!!

For what school does your daughter compete? I coached in the GSC for a good many years. In what events does she compete?

Yikes. That is the right way to do it though…pull it out = bleed to death. There actually was a close call in jav warm-ups at sectionals over here…an errant throw landed less than 5 feet from an athlete looking the other way. In high school a fellow student took an errant shot put throw off of his cheek bone in practice one afternoon. I was in the wrestling room at the time but when I saw him 3 weeks later (after surgery) his face was asymmetrical. Makes me glad they do not throw the hammer in High school…that one scares me.
