Freshman wide receiver Sacovie White arrested on reckless driving charge
Georgia has had another driving-related arrest, as freshman wide receiver Sacovie White was arrested on Sunday morning on two misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and driving down a one-way road, per the Athens-Clarke County jail log.

$26 bond? Either a typo or not too serious. No DUI charge so alcohol wasn’t involved (Thank God). Hope these kids can stay out of trouble this off-season.
At 2:00 or 3:00 AM, Athens' Finest are absolutely itching to pull anyone over, figuring if they can't find a DUI, they'll pivot to a lesser infraction (e.g., expired license, broken tail light, seatbelt violation, etc.). Extra satisfying if you can nab a Georgia athlete. Why these kids are roaming around in the wee hours at such risk, even if amidst somewhat benign activities, is beyond me. Go Dawgs!
Nothing good happens after midnight. The longer the night goes, the more dangerous and unpredictable the night becomes.
Should have been at the most a citation . ACC is a poor excuse for protect and serve . Come join GSP and patrol Atlanta . You will not have to book anyone for one way driving I can assure you .
Football players, Your being heavily scrutinized by Athens Clarke County law enforcement. They know who you are, they know what you drive and their watching. There will be no warnings, no breaks, no calling the coach to come and get you, your going to jail and given your one phone call. So be prudent about how you move about.
White was driving the wrong way down a 1 way street at 3 am. Driving the wrong way down a 1 way street gets you pulled over every time. Day or night.
Here we go again. UGA "discipline", a frequent topic of ridicule from foes or media , again casting the UGA program unfavorably.
What is the point of a $26.00 bond?
Personally, my response to arrests over traffic violations by ACCPD is a big "meh."
There's no reason for this arrest. This is a traffic violation. It should get a ticket, then send the driver on his way.
However, the ACCPD has had a love affair with arresting drivers for minor traffic incidents for literally decades. Like the time the ACCPD chief of police stated in an interview with the AJC about ten years ago that GA state law requires them to arrest drivers who are driving on an expired license despite the fact that there is absolutely no such law on the books.
Arresting someone, regardless of the size of the bond, puts them in the system for "justice". More importantly it puts every other person (player?) on notice to abide by the law of risk the consequences. Ya think that the Athens and Clarke County PD's want to send a message to 30000 UGA students and countless young people to be law abiding? Have you not been watching the rest of the country where law breakers are getting a slap on the wrist or outright release from law breaking? We have seen what being soft on crime has done to the country. Being soft on discipline cost 2 young people their lives in January '23.
This goes A LONG WAY to maintaining law and order not only amongst the UGA football players but amongst young people all over the Athens area.
Add to that the fact that there are a lot of young knuckleheads in Athens. Their presence and poor decision making is a literal gold mine to Athens/Clarke County from a fine standpoint. How much of their budget do you think they legitimately raise, on their own, through fining transgressors?

As a lawyer, I am somewhat amazed that he was arrested. Normal procedure would be to give him a ticket and let him go on his way. Of course, being out at 2:00 AM is not wise. But still…?
I'm thinking that Sacovie was looking for something and I'm happy the ACC PoPo interceded….reddawg, young Mr. White indeed caught a break…..just hope he realizes it and refocuses on the more important goal….working his way into the receiver rotation!
