Georgia football determined to curb reckless driving incidents, maintains proactive approach
ATHENS — Georgia football is tackling a serious off-field issue once more after current players were involved in incidents related to racing and reckless driving charges earlier this week.

It's not what everyone seems to be thinking. It's about impulse control. The NIL money itself leads to this type behavior. The act of bestowing massive amounts of money on teenagers is sheer and utter madness. All the NIL money needs to put in escrow until the student leaves the university.
I posted this on one of the other articles, but I’m adding it to this one, also.
Let’s be realistic. This happens at every college in every town across this nation. If you don’t think it does, I have ocean front property at my house to sell you. Unfortunately teenagers that aren’t mature or prepared to live on their own are going to do s t u p i d stuff like this. The only reason Georgia is making headlines is because it is one of the top programs in the country. If this happened under Goff or Donan, it would be no news at all. It needs to go back to how Dooley took care of stuff when players got in trouble, the police called him first and he took care of it.
I recall Mark Richt dealing with similar problems during his tenure. Vince D. took care of things himself. It happens to all coaches. I am certain Coach Kirby will make determinations within the policies now set in place to deal with with these incidents as he stated in this article. It is sad but part of college football ethos.
Jesus Christ, let it go. I'm not even sure why you are reporting on it other than to get clicks This is not news. If Mondon is suspended because of it, then that is news.
These things never make the news at Florida.
🙄
Why is it that no other arrests are being reported at any other schools? Since this happened there has been a story on Yahoo sports about it. I think I have seen more stories about this UGA problem on national news sites than all other programs combined in the last 2 years. It is a problem and now it is obvious that what CKS is doing is not working. It is embarrassing for the program and implies to recruits parents that UGA football players are allowed to rampage willy nilly through the countryside w/o discipline or consequence.
Drag racing on W Broad St?! Did I read that correctly? Wow that is a new kind of du mb.
Obviously the CKS method of education and additional practice discipline is not a big enough deterrent. A freshman scrub like DJones has no reservations about ignoring CKS rules and the subsequent "repercussions".
Since the current penalties are not working maybe additional penalties should be added? Immediately eligible transfer rules undermine kicking guys off the team though kicking some guys off the team might sink in on those that remain that want to be part of the UGA program. Maybe the NCAA or whoever will fix the transfer rule or make disciplinary dismissals ineligible for a season. Put some teeth back in the rules as a deterrent.
Maybe players losing 1st (and 2nd and 3rd) team reps (practice and game) and demoting players to the scout team for the duration of their 4 game "suspension" (oh you can play but it will be with the 4th teamers)? How about you lose your number too? Mondon can turn in that #2 and start wearing number 61(or another 60's number). Something. Because what is in place is not working. VERY disappointing from a senior "leader" like Mondon. He has been in the system 3-4 years and still doesn't get it. NOT a good maturity message to send to the NFL prior to his last season on campus.
@UGADad20 Calm down it will be ok. I think we all know how these things are handled in Tuscaloosa & other places in the sec vs the ACC gov & the hard on they have for UGA students period & athletes in general. If only they were illegals they would never be bothered or arrested short of committing murder. Bottom line is let Kirby deal with it. NIL is a new thing & he’s adapting. Gone are the days you yearn for when you could kick a guy off the team….and in reality Dooley & Bryant & Dye & those guys rarely did that anyway. Unless the kid couldn’t play lol
This is embarrassing for the program. Hard to believe a senior leader like Mondon, who saw his teammate get killed due to reckless driving, would even think about racing or speeding on a public street.
Sorry, but there is no excuse for behavior like this from any of these guys. Too many players making bad decisions recently. There needs to be meaningful consequences for these kind of actions. Any arrest should not be tolerated.
I do agree on one point. There does need to be some “teeth” put back into the rules.
Here is a solution take them all to Atlanta Speedway a couple times a month and let them get it out of their systems, then if they are caught RACING their car will be taken away for the rest of the year. Speeding is another story it is easy to speed not excessively and they have equipment that can be put in cars to alert you of the speed limit and if you are exceeding it. 18-21 year old's with Lamborghini's, Porsches, and HellCats what do you expect. Lay it out and make them sign that if caught RACING their car will be taken away PERIOD. Can't get any clearer than that.
I want to clarify my comments from another thread on this Same issue. I’m certainly Not Holier Than Thou. I did To Many incredibly S t u p I d things in my youth. And I’m certainly Not proud of them. BUT I Also paid the consequences for my S t u p I d I t y to !!
Some of those consequences were absolutely Brutal, especially for a young guy. Brutal physical punishment might be painful at the time, but these are athletes they will recover from that fast. The Hope would be that Coupled With what the judge dishes out it Might get their attention.
I’d also make them stand up and apologize to the team, as Yes they failed All the players that Do abide by the rules. Just as I failed certain people in My day, in particular my parents.
I sure hope Kirby and company can develop an effective plan to at least inhibit these things. And Yes these things Absolutely happen at many other schools. The thing is UGA is a recent two time national championship winner, thus all the focus.
It's past time for a star player to be dismissed from the team and sent packing.
Kirby's words obviously aren't enough to get through to his players
This is a continuous embarrassment for the university
