How Rara Thomas suspension impacts Georgia football offense
ATHENS — Carson Beck confidently spoke about the depth of the Georgia receiver room and how it excited him entering the 2024 season.

Seem to have enough talent to not miss his absence if permanent
Seems permanent. Very sad, but if he did it then he’s got to go.
“That depth will immediately be tested following the arrest and suspension of wide receiver Rara Thomas.”
I believe that depth will also be REALIZED as guys recognize the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do in this offense. There’s so much talent in that room that someone unexpected will probably emerge to be more impactful than Thomas was in 2023, or would have been in 2024.
It’s sad to know that based on these charges, Mr. Thomas has probably put his family through hell. I doubt that he ever understood the fact that he needed the UGA football program much more than the UGA football program needed him. In spite of the resent issues of these publicized arrests, I am convinced the culture and atmosphere within the program is healthy and solid. Some of these kids are still exposed to a toxic culture from outside of the program that leads to trouble, and possibly the demise of their football careers.
GO DAWGS!
Young is a better version of Rara so we will not miss this kid at all. Sad situation but playing for Georgia is a priviledge.
Young will have a huge year. On the upside we will get to see more of Nitro and Evans who is electric even though he plays Y. Bell will probably move over and play some X from Z so that means Evans will get to play more at Z possibly.
Lots of good/great wide receivers will now get more snaps and that is a really good thing in my opinion for multiple reasons.
Addition by subtraction in my book.
Colbie Young has the 24 season to advance his NFL position from back bencher to first/second round star….he's bigger, faster and more sure-handed than Rara but would have shared snaps….now the stage is set for Colbie to present a command performance and I believe that is exactly what we'll see! I expect to see another rising star shine bright in AE III with Nitro working hard to over take him…..It's a sad tale but GoodOlDawg said it best……Rara needed The Dawgs more that The Dawgs needed Rara……praying that Rara has a life changing epiphany and rises above the problems he has created.
Football is a great sport but it also attracts the riskier individuals. I played for 11 years and really enjoyed kicking the crap out of people. I had an anger management problem and football was my outlet. Thankfully, I avoided, by the Grace of God some close encounters of bad situations I put myself in. A lot of football players are straight up idiots. Just like I was. They are great athletes but that often allows them to get out of situations most people will not. As time goes by some can fool themselves into thinking their are no consequences. This is not a Georgia thing or a college football thing. It is a football thing. I remember half of my sophomore team smoking weed and a few guys doing worse. A few ended up in jail.
We need to be honest about these kids. They are young dumb and a lot of them have bad parents. It is the reality. I hope Rara can find his better self wherever he ends up because he is going to need to do some hard soul searching. I hope he can find a good older male mentor who can help him straighten out.
A prayer for all those involved in this situation as healing is going to take a long time.
The NFL stands for Not For Long. Guys are lining up to take the limited positions every year. As soon as you cannot measure up physically or are more trouble than you are worth you are gone. RThomas was a borderline NFL player who just made it harder on himself to attain his NFL goal through his unacceptable behavior. Considering that Thomas needed the stars to align to carve out an NFL career he may have made a career ending mistake.
I count 9 wr's left on the UGA roster that have the potential to have productive seasons in '24. So the loss is bigger for Thomas than it is for UGA. IMO the UGA wr's are ranked in this order: Bell, Lovett, Young, Evans, ASmith, Humphrey, MJackson, SWhite and Tuggle. All can play. RThomas was probably the 4th best WR on the team. Evans and Humphrey will have to grow up fast and ASmith will have to improve his route running and consistency catching the ball.
Dismissing RThomas now means that the balance between 3 wr , 2 wr and 2 TE sets just became easier to manage. No longer need to carve out a role for an extra senior wr w/NFL aspirations.
UGA has 9 guys that are capable of playing a role. It is on them to make those roles. Hopefully they all can stay healthy. Next man up.
Very well said GoodOlDawg. It’s unfortunate that any of these arrests have occurred. I will point out that Thomas and Etienne came from outside the program. But more of the arrests came from within. Maybe this will all stop when camp starts and coaches and teammates can keep a closer eye on each other.
No mention of Luckie in the TE room? Huge oversight since he might be the best one in it.
Next man up…. Nobody on the team is indispensible on this team of extraordinary talent depth. Ra Ra's replacement will outperform Ra Ra. We should have never let Ra Ra on the team…. He needs to be removed from the team now. Permanently. Regardless of the legal course of his case.
