ATHENS — CJ Allen and Raylen Wilson entered fall camp ahead of schedule. We weren’t supposed to know how good they were entering the 2024 season.

Don't sleep on Troy Bowles. And Justin Williams and Chris Cole as freshman. Man oh man, that's 3 deep right there… NOBODY in the country is even close at ILB. Go Dawgs!

"In hindsight, Kirby Smart recognizes the two weren’t fully ready for what was asked of them."

Could have fooled me! Especially Allen. ;-)

Just watched Jalon Walker's interview: I'm consistently impressed at how smart and together many of these 20-year-old athletes are (which makes the road racing, etc., idiocy of some team members all the more aggravating).

Edge was a weak point last year, especially containment. But doesn't it seem like it could be a huge strength this year?

I mean, we've got Jalon, Mykel and Chambliss as the experienced guys — the first two being off-the-charts talented. But then there's Damon Wilson and Gabe Harris — two incredibly gifted sophomores — not to mention the big DEs (Ingram-Dawkins and Jonah-Ajonye). And then this Quintavius Johnson kid comes out of nowhere and steals the show during fall scrimmages!

Those guys don't just add up to a wrecking crew — they seem like they could unleash wrecking balls, bulldozers and dynamite in opposing backfields.

I don't see wasting Jalon Walker's time at ILB when you have the talent and depth that we do—especially with Walker's talent at getting to the QB. Mondon better look out—it sounds like he could be in a position to lose some playing time—this is his draft year—that would not be good for him.

My goodness, that LB room across the board is second to none. Coach Shoe, you're a rock star! Go Dawgs!

I know they were freshmen last season, but I had high expectation of them last year. CJ did pretty well last season and Raylen was somewhat of a disappointment. He looked lost in his limited appearance on the field. Really hope to see a breakout season for Raylen.

They'll all be fine. Georgia typically recruits not only for elite skills, but also smarts (and attitude). The difference in complexity of schemes on offense (reading) and defense (executing) from any high school to Georgia/SEC is a massive order of magnitude. Any flashing we saw as youngins is pure athletic ability. Once they complement that with enhanced "big boy football" IQ, watch the heck out! Go Dawgs!

If you go out and watch some of the video stuff on youtube they do breakdowns of these 2. It is pretty obvious after watching the videos that the recognition, react and run to the ball was too slow in several games. Think about the counter GT was running against us and also the Bama game. If CJ and Raylen can read the play and react a half a second faster then those 5-8 yard runs become 1-3 yard runs. It happened a lot and I'm hopeful that this will be 1 of the 2 biggest changes from last year and get our rush defense back under 90 a game.

    Fair enough point!
