Kirby Smart ‘very dangerous’ when Georgia football has added prep time
ATHENS —Kirby Smart knows what to do with extra preparation time, to the extent his Georgia football teams have won a staggering 21 in a row with more than a week to prepare.
Comments
Both teams have 2 weeks to prepare so no excuses should be coming from either side with a loss.
Yes, way too many snaps by defensive linemen in the KY game. No more than (40) snaps per game should probably be the max to keep guys fresh enough during a long season. It will be interesting to see who gets to shadow Milroe in the game - Walker? Williams if he's back? Would hate to lose Walker on the pass rush, but it's almost more important to keep Milroe under wraps, because he has been running more this season.
Ironically, our crappy win to Kentucky may be the difference in us GETTING the win for Bama. I'm sure Smart did his best to get the players pumped up for Kentucky, but I doubt the players REALLY believed him considering Kentucky's previous performance.. Now, he's got near unlimited ammo to get emotions going and 2 weeks to do it. "Bobo the Clown" will be referenced to all offensive players. Beck will be told he's now considered average. There isn't going to be any laughing and joking. They are going to be an angry team heading into Bama territory and I'm hoping we see just an absolute knockout by Georgia.
I'm guessing that Kirby will also use the first week to tear down his team, point out all of their flaws in an attempt to bring them down from thinking they've already earned anything (see pre-season No.1 ranking) to go along with practicing fundamentals. Then use the second week to obviously prepare for the opponent while building them back up to a point of knowing they can still achieve their goals, as long as they prepare correctly while giving great effort.
Maybe it wa a little premature to say "Clemson is back" in form after South Alabama boat-raced App State. This is obviously not the App St we all remember who was capable of playing up to their competition.
THe narrative was/is that BAMA can't be BAmA without Nick Saban. We fixin to find out. WHether anyone is saying this outloud or not, this is a defining moment for UGA and for BAMA. If we can't stroll into Tuscaloosa and give them more than they want then Kirby will be 1-6 against BAMA. ANd 0-1 against DeBoer. Much of what Kirby has worked so hard for will be on display for all to see in Tuscaloosa, the whole world will be watching.
For all our great recruiting and great coaches, and even the 2 NC's if we get manhandled, it will say something about the trajectory of our program and CKS compared to BAMA's program. This is sort of the last hurdle Kirby needs to get over.
It took BAMA's top two receivers getting hurt and for Kirby to have SB,and BB to get his 1 win over BAMA and win the NC.
We will be up against a tough as nails running QB who would be a 1st round RB if he wasn't playing QB. CKS and CGS have to devise a plan to keep him from taking off and beating us with his legs and then our DB's staying wiith their receivers long enough while Milroe runs around in the backfield waiting for someone to get open.. It will be a tough task.
The best defense will be a great offense. Can Bobo figure out the weaknesses of the BAMA defense and exploit them. Can we get off to a fast start for a change and put BAMA on the defensive? OR will Bobo squelch drives that are going well by virtue of our passing attack only to once again decide to slow things back down with the run up the middle for no gain? Can he learn from past mistakes or are we doomed to keep commiting them?
We shall see.

I think our offense during the Kentucky game was intended to keep out cards close to our chest so that Alabama will have a harder time preparing for us. I'm happy about our current situation at this point. If we were #1 with everyone calling us the obvious Nat Champ, Alabama would be ready to knock us down...hard.
@reddawg1…yep. I'm going to be curious to see if Bobo breaks out some new plays with new players - like maybe some real use of Delp & company FINALLY? Where was Arian Smith against KY? Can our receivers get space and make it easier for Beck? Thinking Bama will bring the pressure a fair amount but not as much as the Wildcats did.
DeBoer is a very good coach. I'm excited for the matchup.
I don't think our under-performance at KY was a result of players being over-confident. To the contrary, I think it was a function of Kirby drum-beating into them how hard that game was gonna be, and the team consequently played too tentative… a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you will. In any case, it's now water under the bridge, and tremendous opportunities lie ahead to make Georgia fans proud and shut the critics up. Go Dawgs!
Wowieee. Compare that "take a few days to relax" approach to Smart's "Better Never Rests," and I think we've got a key difference between what these programs are up to. I'd much rather hear Smart's words that DeBoer's.
Yeah, running was about 90% of what Milroe had going for him last year. No reason not to keep leaning on it, I suppose.
Been hearing a lot about Milroe and their 17 yr old receiver, and will we be able to contain them. We did really good bottling him up last year in SECCG until the last drive. I don't think that will be our downfall. I've also hardly heard anything about Bama's D, especially their secondary. They lost their entire D backfield from last year and after Wiscy's QB went down so did any threat to them in the passing game. Last year in SECCG Bama started in zone, but after we ripped them the first drive they switched D schemes and slowed us down. Do they have a level off talent on their backend to stop all of our corps of receivers?
I predict that streak will end next weekend in Tuscaloosa, unfortunately.
Can’t beat Alabama with only Defense-Offense has to do their part, and Bobo handed Carson the keys to an EV this season with no backup plan for bad weather.
