Georgia football-Alabama instant observations as Bulldogs fall just short, again, in instant classic
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — You can never count out the heart of a champion. Georgia showed that on Saturday night.

Love the fight til the end. Too little, too late though.
We looked completely shell shocked and unprepared after a bye week. The better team won tonight. Another team punches the DAWGS in the face, and this time they win the fight. Dawgs have got so much work to do. Other than the effort in the 2nd half, Kirby cannot be pleased with the way this game was played. All the effort in the world cannot erase the facts of this game nor the loss.
Can’t wait until the 2nd half or 4th quarter to start playing. The play of the game was on their first drive and we had them stopped on 3rd down but we jumped offsides to give them a first down. 28-0 doesn’t happen without that offsides call.
We got some recruiting and developing to do. Not happy with our rush on Milroe tonight. We gotta get to him to avoid the big plays. Carson definitely has to get more polished with the long ball.
Why can’t we ever get star receivers?
Resilient effort by Dawgs. If we don’t get down by 28 We win this game. I agree that the offsides on the first drive was key as they would have been three and out and gave us the ball back. I think Bobo had an excellent game plan. We came out slinging the ball deep and often. Just poor execution and Beck just wasn’t seeing the field well tonight. I think if we get Bama again we Win. Go Dawgs!
like I said after the Kentucky game, The offense would be the downfall and Milroe would embarrass us-and he did: Over 500 yards of offense by himself and 4 TD’s in the first half.

Dawgnation
I am going to go out on a limb here, and everyone that has seen my screen name and read my posts over the years know I am a diehard Dawgs all the way-so this isn’t easy for me to post.
I believe the Kentucky game was not a one-off. I believe Coach Smart knew his team was vulnerable on the offensive side of the ball, called by his BFF, Bobo. Coach Smart lost too many offensive weapons to the draft, and didn’t do a great enough job to his standard of replacing them with the 2024 draft class or the 2023 class.
Our Dawgs will go 6-3 the rest of the way-NO WAY I have faith this team will defeat Alabama at their house AT NIGHT the Saturday after next-Jalen Milroe will embarrass us as will our own offense with Bobo’s play calling and lack of imagination and ability to overcome the overall lack of talent AND experience at the skill positions-Carson Beck is not Stetson Bennett or Aaron Murray-at least he hasn’t proven to me that he is.
Furthermore, if the other 2 losses are to Texas at their house and then to UT at home- Georgia will also be left out of the 12 team playoff.
If they are able to defeat Ole Miss on the road, I still do not see a pathway for them as the #3 or #4 team from the SEC.
So a 9-3 season will wrap it up-some will blame injuries or make other excuses-but it won’t matter. The reality will be what it is and there will be no denying it-We are what our record says we are.
And the million dollar question will be this: Who is going to lead Georgia in 2025 at the QB position, and will they even be considered a top 5 preseason team?
You cannot win perennially in today’s game with just having an elite defense. You must have an established QB and weapons at his disposal to go with a good to great defense.
missing out on Manning was one thing-but to have Raiola flip away as well-hurts. As much as we do not want to admit that, it is true.
That is my prediction, remember it here and now, so you can make me eat crow after the Alabama game! I will gladly put on a bib and munch down with no hot sauce..
it was a nice comeback attempt in the second half, but if we are being honest with ourselves- Alabama let their foot off the gas and still defeated our Dawgs SOUNDLY.
And Beck? 4 turnovers? Come on, man. That is unacceptable.
Go Dawgs
any Dawg fan over 40 please explain to me how Coach Smart and his team of super recruiters cannot recruit elite 5 ⭐️ WR talent?
We lost to the better team, the team that made fewer bad plays and more good plays. There is no way that Texas can keep #1….it's The Tide. There is not another team that can make so many errors, be down by 28 and still come back with a real possibility to win than Georgia….for that reason I'll place The Dawgs at #4.
I don’t love the last play call. We had two timeouts and 49 seconds left from the 20. Throwing an end zone fade from the right hash to the left pylon is a tough ask.
Etienne was fresh. Run the ball or go with another crossing route over the middle.
Best case scenario we score but Alabama gets the ball back with 40+ seconds and 3 timeouts only needing a field goal to win.
Back shoulder was working when corners had to run down the field but at the 20 they had their heads turned around and watching QB.
Another CKS L to Alabama! SSDD!
and one last thing:
Kirby Smart’s defense, led by preseason All-American and ALL SEC safety Malaki Starks just allowed a 17 year old true freshman WR put up 177 yards receiving and a TD up on them in his 4th collegiate football game.
That is beyond embarrassing.
And that is NOT an elite defense. No elite defense allows that. PERIOD.
@MikeGriffith can't disagree with your assessment. I was, and am, proud that the Dawgs never gave up. Some might say that Alabama took their foot off the gas. I don't think so. I think we finally figured some things out on defense (still need some DBs who can stick to receivers like glue, though) and the offense — except for the final play — just played better. Georgia showed it can play with Alabama and, if they don't hang on to this loss too long, I still think we have a good shot to make the playoffs. One question, though. Does anyone know why Nate Frazier didn't play at all? Surely he hasn't dropped to fourth on the depth chart.
What does "better team" even mean if it's only based on what happens in this one game? By that reasoning, there's no such thing as an upset. 1-6 beats 6-1? Better team won.
And Bama didn't even look better for the whole game, just one half of it. I would argue that the better team doesn't need several turnovers from their opponent, at home, just to win in the final minute.
Look, I was just like everyone else, throwing my hands up and tossing all hope out the window. Shame on me. But in the end, I would feel good about the Dawgs chances in the event of a rematch.
Champions don’t turn the ball over 4 times. This team is not a champion. It has no titles or trophies and if they keep playing like this the rest of the season, there won’t be a playoff
But in the end, I would feel good about the Dawgs chances in the event of a rematch.
Agree 1000%
Go Dawgs!
As Kirby says you are either elite or you’re not, so that answers that. NO elite team gets blown out like that, so we are back to 3 win seasons but it was nice while it lasted. Beck needs to give the car back
