I don’t think Kirby has any idea what the fans want. He evidently never saw the crowd reaction at the auburn blackout game in 2007.

I think Kirby knows exactly what the fans want - to win every game (some want 100 to 0 and they’d still find something to complain about). A 97 and 17 record just isn’t good enough for some. Yes

“Some of the best places I’ve played, great atmosphere,” Smart said. “They never change their uniform, they’re traditionalist. If it takes changing the uniform to get people fired up, then I’m at the wrong place.”

    Amen

He thinks he’s trying to fire up the fans, but not most of them are being fired up the way he intends. I was at the game, and I agree with Kirby that it was not loud. The fans wanted a much better showing and a win vs that team that lost to Vanderbilt. That probably had a lot to do with the crowd and the devastation of the hurricane. Yes, we have been experiencing the glory days since Kirby’s second year. I for one would like to read the news one day without one of his players doing something s t u p i d and getting arrested.

I agree that even the most ardent UGA fans see the repeated arrests as a bad reflection on the school.

I wonder how much of the fans in game behavior was a result of the temperature pushing 90 and most of the seats at Sanford being in the sun?

Everyone knows the better the team is the more rabid the fans are. And UGA just came off a bad loss to hated rival Alabama.

" If it takes changing the uniform to get people fired up, then I’m at the wrong place.”

I absolutely agree! This team doesn't need to make some shallow fashion statement to represent UGA. They just need to play to the standard that CKS expects. That should be more than enough to satisfy DawgNation. Personally, I think the black shirts look hideous.

    GO DAWGS!

Red jerseys and I would love to actually see SILVER britches, Scott Howard describes them this way each game but they are, in fact, gray. For whatever reason we went grey. I don’t dislike the look and think our classic home uniform is the best looking in all of football but, if the Dallas Cowboys can wear shiny silver, why can’t we?

I have seen a different Kentucky uniform every week and Ole Miss has no idea what color blue they should wear. And don’t even think about Oregon. Stick with red. It is who we are.

Good grief, why can you people not fix the comment section?! I know people looking for jobs. Just hire someone to fix this already!

Agree about the reason for the atmosphere. I think most fans were looking for a performance indicative of a team that was ticked off after the Alabama loss, taking their frustrations out on a lesser team, and the fans didn't see that. It was a good win, don't get me wrong. Just my assessment of one reason for the muted atmosphere.

I do agree with Coach Smart that wins are harder & harder to come by in the SEC, especially with NIL and the transfer portal. A lot more parity now because of that. A lot more teams that can beat you on any given day than there used to be. Maybe one of the reasons we won't see as many games going forward where we stomp the other team.

To me, this is completely missing the point. I've made this argument a number of times, so I won't go full-on with it again here. But the point of black jerseys doesn't need to be to generate hype, and I really wish people would stop framing it that way. With black being one of our official colors, I think a regimented incorporation of black jerseys would be a great addition to the program's tradition.

Who cares what color the team wears?! Lol

A lot of wasted energy discussing something that has absolutely nothing to do, with "winning football". They can wear white T-Shirts for all I care. I know who they are.

On the flip side….my understanding of the "Black Jersey Special"....that was implemented many years ago....was not just to "fire up the fanbase", but, to intimidate the opponent. It kinda lost it's punch, when the Dawgs got throttled by Bama during a "Blackout Game".

Lol....now....I get a little queasy, even looking at those black Jersey's. It's a new day in Athens. Why not try a new color arrangement to inspire a special brand of "intimidation & enthusiasm"....if that's what the fans want.

Personally....I like, Silver Jerseys with Black #'s and Red pants with Silver/Black Stripes down the side. Or maybe a Black and silver cammo Jersey with red numbers and black pants with a red stripe down the side.

Now those "black jerseys" are just a fan novelty that gets dusted off every now and then. Mainly due to fan request. Kirby knows this…he was a Dawg. So, I'm not sure, why he would question it's occasional use now, all of a sudden. Maybe, it's just the early-season frustration talking.

I think Kirby was disappointed....No....angry to see fans leaving a rivalry game, still in reach by Auburn....in the 3rd and early 4th quarters. It was noticeable....and players noticed it.

He...and a lot of his players are from areas of Georgia that were severely effected by Hurricane Helene. Their families suffered the same tragedies that the fans suffered....yet, they showed up to work....every day.

Maybe the players felt, all of the fans should've done the same thing...or stayed home. Afterall....aren't we "all in this together". That philosophy only works if it's applied during the bad times, as well as the good.

Just a thought. Lol....I think this is all, so extra....and unnecessary. Einstein only had 1 type of suit, to relieve him of expending energy on "deciding what to wear". If UGA wants to be elite...maybe they should do the same. Pick a color. Lol

How about instead of worrying about what jersey you wear, you worry about creating plays that give your players an opportunity to perform...

Fyi....you can create the best plays in the world, all the live-long day. But, if you haven't run each one of those plays flawlessly in practice a couple dozen times, using the various personnel packages and formations.....you won't likely use it in a Saturday Game.

IMO....It's not about the play. Never has been. It's about the execution. The Dawgs are fairly young. Which means Bobo and Smart are limited by the experience level of the least experienced skill player on the field...as well as the defense he's facing.

You don't want to call a play, that requires the QB's 1st or 2nd option to be a rookie RB or WR that hasn't shown he can run the play flawlessly in practice. That's how turnovers are created....not touchdowns. You'll see Beck throwing to an empty spot or a DB, rather than his WR....cause, the receiver misread the coverage and wasn't proficient with that particular route tree.

Personally....I won't start critiquing the Dawgs till the Texas Game. I think, they're still a work-in-progress....with multiple walking wounded, still mending from Fall Camp and soreness due to increased reps due to injury shortages at a few positions. Not to mention, all the young guys getting their first significant taste of playing-time.

All of those things [and some], combined....are the fires from which a Champion is forged....and, UGA only uses the finest Stainless Steel with a team of master craftsmen. They will be a deadly weapon by the end of the season....IMO....because of the adversity they face between now and the CFP. Not in spite of it.

If we don't see a version of "Kirby's Finished Product"....with a performance from the offense, similar to their recent beat-downs of TCU, Mich. & Oregon....UGA will be in some tight games, going forward. They'll have to grind to get to the CFP, this year. BUT....I don't believe that will be the case.

To be clear....I don't expect UGA to beat Texas 50 -0 or anything like that. I'm thinking, more like 27-10....or, somewhere in that range. I'll take a fresh look at it after this weekend....cause, that's how fast things are changing, this year. Lol

Go Big Red! Let Mississippi State know who the Alpha Dawg is, in the SEC. Lol....after Saturday....they might want to change their name.
