New AP Poll rankings have Georgia playing the No. 1 team for the first time since 2019
ATHENS — One of the top college football games of the season has at last arrived, with Georgia visiting Texas this week.

Unfortunately based on how Georgia has looked this season, the game might look a lot similar to that game vs Lsu. I’m hoping for better results, but being realistic, too.
Penn State at 3 is just plain funny. And Ohio State not dropping beyond 4 is, well, fortunate for them. It looked to me like they were clearly outplayed by the first truly good team they've faced. Oregon left on the table lots of points that were ready for the taking.
But of course, there's always the counterpoint, who would you put ahead of them? Unfortunately, the Dawgs haven't consistently looked like that team, so ok. Fine.
Something is definitely off with this team. I can't explain it, but I also can't deny it. They seem to just switch off at times. Maybe, hopefully, going to play the #1 team will hold their attention for four quarters. It's looking like our best shot at pulling off the win might be a shootout, a last-team-to-have-the-ball-wins sort of situation. I still think they can do it, but it will obviously take the type of performance that we have yet to see from them this year.
Kirby’s teams have had two common themes. They almost never cover the spread. And they always seem to be ready for the big games. No one was going to stop LSU in 2019 and if anyone can beat TX, UGA has just a good a shot as anyone. GO DAWGS!!
We don't deserve a ranking as high as #5.
I'm still not sure what to make of this team. We haven't played a complete 60-minutes worth of really good football since the Clemson game. We have struggled in every game since then other than TN Tech. We look good at times and then absolutely awful many other times. We have shown no consistency on either side of the ball, and I can't blame it all on injuries.
Where are the leaders? It's very telling when Kirby says in the post game interview yesterday that HE is the one that is trying to fire up his players on the sidelines, begging them to get with the program. Why is Kirby doing that when there should be leaders on both offense and defense getting in the face of the players and bringing the fire???
We have the highest paid coaching staff in the nation and have recruited in the Top 3 the past several years, but you wouldn't know it by the way we are playing football.
And a shoutout to Brandon Adams - I do appreciate what Kirby has done for the Georgia football program, but I don't appreciate the way we are winning and losing games this season. As an alumni and fan, I have every right to be disappointed in our efforts and the way we are playing. So don't bash the fans for being upset and having higher expectations than apparently you do.
We need to get our act together and come prepared for Texas. Let's not go in to Austin and play shell-shocked for the first 30 minutes like we did against a what-turns-out-to-be not that great of an Alabama team. They look as lost as we do right now, just trying to figure out why it is so hard to win football games.
IMO....it's a little premature to analyze the perennial contenders in the SEC & BIG10. UGA, OSU, Bama, LSU, Oregon, ND, Clemson....Ga Tech [Lol].
They all know.…it's gonna be a particularly long season for the teams selected for the CFP. They're pacing themselves...spreading out game reps, to get their 2nd and 3rd teams ready to support. Finding their own weaknesses and pluggin' em up.
As far as UGA is concerned....The Clemson Game was close to what the final product will look like on the field. Only....much more explosive in the Texas Game. That's when I expect Kirby, to start peeling off the shades and showing his hole-cards.
IMO....The overall concern, with the defensive performance, is much ado about nothing.
It's obvious, Kirby and Schumann are challenging the defense to stop teams,....not using their best stuff. Running out of base defenses with none of the usual nuances, basic blitzes and man coverage using young inexperienced DB's.
But....that's how you get better. And, we all know..."Better Never rests" in Kirbyville.
UGA will shock the Conference and CFB, this coming Saturday...and, Sark never saw it coming. Lol
UGA....54
TEX.....31
It'll be relatively close through 2.5 quarters.…then, the sky will fall on Austin Texas, and a Bulldog will be standing on top of a Longhorn, with a whip and a bullhorn,...announcing their return from a premature ESPN eulogy. Lmao
The Dawgs will introduce some new folds in their blitz packages, in the second half of this game. As the Longhorns are forced into a passing offense....I anticipate, this will lead to 2 or 3 second half turnovers.
That being said...there's one or two basic skills, that UGA's DB's must improve-on.....Tackling & Angle of Pursuit.
Their tackling has improved some....but, they still have problems judging Pursuit Angles. Probably, because their young guys...[and, there are many]….haven't completely adjusted to SEC game-speed. The latter will improve with experience.
The former...[tackling]...is something that can and should be fixed in practice....whether it's a matter of "strength & conditioning" or " poor technique". On a Kirby Smart coached team...I highly doubt, it's "poor technique"....otherwise, they wouldn't be on the field.
Go git em Big Red.
In general, I’ve become skeptical of the “we’re holding back” mentality, particularly when the CKS is visibly frustrated after a win. But. I don’t dismiss it outright. In the end, your score may be a bit generous, but I like it! GO DAWGS!!
Yep. Although, Kirby seems to be like that, in every game....regardless of score.
I've seen a few things, that would've had me, as upset as Kirby, if I was their coach. But.…those were little things in the grand scheme of it all. It's no shock to me, that Kirby sweats the small stuff. That's what makes him what he is...."The Best".
I was thinkin' the same thing about my final score prediction. I think I may have been a little too generous with Texas' final numbers. They could be much lower...depending on how the turnover battle goes. But, I'll go ahead and stick with em, for now. Lol
i am sorry to bring bad news, but Lambo Beck BooBoo and the newly outed Schumann will be totally mauled next Satursay against Texas. Say goodbye to Elite, folks… the team and coaches have gotten soft and too complacent. No leaders on the team.
I am taking Texas and the points. Texas is going to absolutely annihilate Georgia next Saturday. I am scared to even watch it. Georgia is no longer an elite football team at all, hemmoraging in every group to include coaching now that we are suffering Bobo and Schumann whose hype was astronomical.
If you're takin' Texas....you don't get points. They are 3½ point favorites…[home field advantage].
They're calling this "a coin flip game". But, I don't see it that way. UGA will make Texas look a lot like Michigan did in the '21 CFP Semi-final. In the second half.
If you gave me a choice between Sark's Staff and Kirby's Staff....I'd go with Smart's....all day long. But....I like some of the coaches on Sark's Staff, too.
It's not the individual coaches I value most....It's The Program Kirby Built, that I prize most. Although, Sarkisian is doing a heck of a job, too.
You are about to see the REAL Dawg Defense. The DB's have been challenged by Schuman and survived. For the most part. Now…it's time to blow the dust off the nuances that make the Saban/Belichick/Smart Dollar Defense, so deadly.
You don't really think the Dawgs are gonna try to man-up the Longhorn receivers, do you? Lol
Look for lots of pressures coming from all over the field. I don't think UGA, or anybody else, is too concerned with Ewers' legs. He's gonna have to get the ball out of his hands much quicker. He isn't gonna have the kind of time in the pocket, the Dawgs have been allowing. However....that makes them vulnerable in other areas…which could cost em a big play or two. But, no TD's.
IMO, what has concerned me,, the most, is.....despite some improvement over the last few games…..the "sloppy/poor tackling" and "poor angle's of pursuit" from the secondary. I chalk most of the tackling & pursuit issues, up to youth and inexperience.
Also…It's obvious they were held back some, from "hitting" the QB, backs and receivers in scrimmages. Probably due to all the injury issues, Kirby has had to navigate over the years....going into a season. You play…how you practice. All's I'm sayin'. Lol
I have noticed UGA attacks the ball more, this season, in attempt to create more turnovers. At times, this has led to unearned yardage and…"poor tackling".
