I guess it is what it is. No way to fix the problem. Dropping passes is just our thing this year.
That seems wrong. We have a WR coach, a RB coach, a TE coach - are they just sitting around waiting for Bobo to improve their players? If he were to spend time doing all that you say, when would he have time to watch film and game plan - which I assume is not something you do on a single Sunday afternoon.
What do you suggest?
I don't know. I don't get paid $1M to coach offense.
Y'all tell me there isn't a problem.
The OC is in charge of it all. That's why they get paid a lot more than the position coaches.
Well, it seems that all that can be done is to replace the position coaches with ones who can teach successful pass catching? Does Bobo get any credit for our OL's successful run and pass blocking? The great block Yurosek had on ETN's touchdown run? Should he be castigated for pre-snap motion penalties, holding penalties and such?
You have to go back, probably to at least Pickens, to find a game-breaking, elite, pass-catching WR recruited to our team. McConkey played into an amazing threat, and developed past his perceived ceiling. I’m talking about the downfield, contested catch, how’d he get that open, take your breath away guys. I saw some guys last night who seemed like they’d rather short-arm and not get hit than go get the football. I do agree with Kirby that can affect your QB. He’s wondering “if I sling will my guy be where he’s supposed to be? Will he go win this ball?” The answer is, “who knows?” I’ll keep saying, the money now scheme deflates the effort to earn it.
I don't want to argue all day about this. Our offense has major issues. I think everyone can and should agree with that. It's Bobo's to fix.
I think Bobo should realize what plays are working and what plays aren’t. We are running for 9 yards a carry while the receivers aren’t getting separation, running routes wrong, and dropping passes. Let’s throw 41 times I guess. Ridiculous
I kinda sorta agree with you. The buck stops with Bobo, or, rather, with Kirby.
That does not mean they are on the field making the mistakes.
I suspect the upcoming bye week will make a tremendous difference to this Georgia team's development, growth, improvement, and head space.
Go, Dawgs!
Practice, practice, practice and more practice. 😎
Get out the jug machine. Have them practice starting with their backs to the machine and not turn until the ball is in the air - or have a coach throwing it to them with the same constraints. They will have to pick up the ball quickly if they are going to be successful. Can do the same thing with them facing a wall and throwing a tennis ball past their ears and they have to react quickly to catch the tennis balls off the wall. I mean, there are tons of these types of activities other than straight catching the ball from the JUGS. We knew of these things back in the 70's. They aren't new. I'm not saying they will help but they are ideas to investigate, if they haven't already. It's hard for me to imagine they don't know about this type of training. Heck, I know about it and I coached skinny distance runners.
I don't know how anyone drops a pass with the gloves they wear. You see guys making one handed circus catches…it's the gloves. If you have never tried a pair, go to your local sports store, put on a pair and pick up a football. They aren't leather, they are some sort of super-grip plastic. It's amazing!
Remember when Joe Burrow went from just meh to Super-God QB? What did he call it….the Summer of 10,000 Passes or something. He spent the entire summer just throwing at his receivers.
There is also a tendency among us fans to expect perfection. Perfection is a wonderful goal, but it isn't a realistic one. Bobo and the O were facing what was and still is the #1 ranked D in all of college football (total and scoring D). Whether they are or they aren't, they are certainly a very solid D. We hung 30 on them and could have done much better had we cleaned up some key areas like catching the ball and not turning it over. Overall, it was a great win with many things to clean up. I give Bobo an A- on execution and an A+ on the results (facing and defeating the #1 D and #1 team in CFB.) It was a big win for the team and him imo.
Kudos to Bobo for the game he called.
It would have been a greater moment for him without the errant passes and dropped balls. Make those receivers walk around campus with a ball all week.
