Judgment Day for Georgia football: 5 Bulldogs who must step vs. Tennessee

CJ and Nate really need a stellar performance. I am struggling to see a UGA win here. Etienne on the sideline took me aback. Vols are just too strong now and will play to UGA's obvious weaknesses. This not like prior games. The Vols are elite in many ways. Carson needs a perfect strike night to win this thing. The Oline will have to play above their competence/ability to stymie a league leading Vol defense. I expect the Dawgs ro give it their all but it will be very CLOSE. Dawgs by a field goal.
@MikeGriffith Good article Mike. Love your over all optimism and sure Hope your right Allow me to add this to your list please: Coaches need to be innovative, resilient, and aggressive !! Able to make In Game changes to win. Go Dawgs !!
Great article…spot on!
We need the team to play well. Play as a unit. THis team doesn't have the 1st round players of the teams of old. THe offense need everyone involved. CB throwing to 6-7 different receivers. OL blocking well. Defense just needs for everyone to do their jobs. Total team win! We're better together than we are apart! UGA 31- Tenn 21 Go DAWGS!
”It’s old news that Beck set himself up for criticism with self-promotion of NIL riches, but Beck himself is not old news. Beck has learned a lesson.
Beck has the talent to make all the throws, but on Saturday against Tennessee he’ll need to show the toughness.
Look for Beck to show the impressive athleticism and grit that NFL “winners” possess. The arm talent and football I.Q. will present it self at the combine. More than anything, Beck needs to show he can lead.”
You gotta be kidding…
I think Beck is a decent QB, but not a good QB. In my estimation, based on watching him for two seasons as the starter, and previously as a backup, he can’t “make all the throws”, at least not at a high level. He does well on short passes over the middle—when he doesn’t hold the ball too long or throw behind his receiver. His sideline throws, corner of the end zone throws, back shoulder throws, etc. have all been average at best. Further, because his ball comes out flat, and he doesn’t see the field well, is ineffective at looking off defenders, etc., he is susceptible to being tipped and/or picked off, and his throws are difficult for his receivers to catch. He lacks “touch” and is very poor at the 50/50 ball… perhaps lacking trust and confidence?
Athleticism and grit? His lack of those qualities might be his biggest weaknesses. In fact, the book on him for opposing D’s is get in his face and he waffles. He also does poorly when forced to roll out or scramble, plays timidly, and overall lacks positive energy on the field. When he throws a pick (which is often this year—school record?), he vigorously complains about his receiver, then goes to sulk on the bench and disengages from the game.
Lastly, his behavior off the field is a liability and bad for team morale. A Lamborghini, diamond-encrusted watches and a sleeve of tats when you haven’t won any championships—and arguably cost Georgia a few? Seriously? 🤷♂️
I, for one, will be glad to see Beck finish out his lackluster college career and, possibly, secure a late round NFL draft pick.
I am pulling for Beck and our Dawgs tonight, but let’s can the BS about how great he is at his position. 😇
with “everything” on the line. The dawgs can win this!! But if they don’t, the tech game will show the character of the team, as they will probably be playing for the taxslslayer bowl.
you could even say the same for CJ Allen…he is so slow, I mean when he is in coverage I think I see him almost 6-7 yards behind his man. Let’s put in Wilson more and even Justin Williams with Mondon.
Good calls, would maybe replace Williams (Jalon Walker went beast-mode in his absence) with Ernest Green (cant be trusted as blindside protection, but can provide body mass for run blocking).
No real objective reason not to get Gunner some PT…better runner, much tougher, and no less effective throwing screens & five-yard slants.
O-line has to step up for them to have a chance, period.
CJ Allen a sophomore from Burnsville?? Which editor and proof reader signed off on this. Are you geographically challenged or just a person that doesn't care about their work product? I hope UGA is working harder at being better than the pitiful writing on this website. I guarantee you that you could find a sophomore from Barnesville to write better and more accurate articles.
It’s obviously been a disappointing season for Mykel, Starks and Beck. Their preseason accolades haven’t panned out, to say the least. But if we can somehow beat Tennessee tonight and get healthier before the Tech game, we’ll have a chance to be special. If we lose tonight, for me it’ll be the most disappointing team since 2015.
Thanks for the article MG, your insights were brutal at times, but then again, the play this team has shown on the field has been just that, brutal at times. Hopefully, tonight, with backs against the wall, this team works together and shows the fight and grit that the Georgia brand is known for. Let's show the world that we belong in the playoffs.
Dude, there are mistakes in Dawgnation articles true enough, but your condescending attitude is not welcome here. Obviously from your freshman ranking, you are new here. Please tone it down and dial back on the personal attacks.
Beck was awesome during the final three quarters last night. That is all. 😇
