Georgia dropped 9 spots losing to a 16th ranked Ole Miss team, but the most these other teams dropped were 5,6, and 7 spots to mostly unranked teams, and they wonder why Georgia fans are paranoid about missing the NCAA Playoff, Georgia cannot lose another game, if they do, they will be dropped out of the Playoffs, just remember last year when Georgia dropped 5 spots losing to a #8 Bama team by 3 points in the SECC game, and missed out playing for a Natty.

Yeah, noticed that and just said the same to my wife. And Carolina sits behind ole miss and alabama and they beat two teams bama lost to. They didn’t play tennessee otherwise it could have been a sweep. And bama beat them by 2 because SCAR missed the two point conversion.

Same record and better wins but no respect.

yeah, I am getting quite tired of the shenanigans of the good ole boy club with these rankings and certain teams.

One example: Alabama got dominated and lost convincingly to a team, their 3rd loss, that they were favored by 14.5 points over! An OU team that lost 5 SEC games by double digits, a true freshman starting QB, 5 of their top playmaking WR out for the year, that lost by 25+ to the Gamecocks, Texas, Ole Miss, and lost to Missouri as well as UT! Their head coaches seat was so hot he had to ice bath his balls twice a week since October 1!

And they managed 3 points(Alabama), while giving up 260 yards on the ground, to a freshman!

Alabama’s 1st loss was to Vanderbilt, with all the hoopla about them, they are sitting at 6-5, barely bowl eligible!

That is 2 of 3 losses against teams not even sniffing the top 30, and their only “good” loss was against a UT team that was smoked by us and lost to 5 win Arkansas!

Any other team with just those 2 losses wouldn’t be higher than 15, regardless of what is going on around them.

That is complete 💩 that they only dropped 7 spots. They should NOT be ranked ahead of Ole Miss, ASU, or BYU.

Not with 2 unranked losses-and they were NOT close.
Where was all that benefit of the doubt from these 🫏’s last season, when UGA’s first loss was in a bonus game by 3 points????

    Ridiculous.

One thing never seems to change, doesn't matter what year, the committee undervalues Georgia, and you know Kirby will used that disrespect again this year. I hope Georgia gets to play Penn St, and or Notre Dame so they can rub that snub in the face of this biased committee.

    @WildmanSlayer

Yes, undefeated UGA entered that weekend #1. After they lost, they were clearly behind 13-0 Michigan, 13-0 Washington, 13-0 FSU, 12-1 Big 12 champs Texas and 12-1 SEC champs Bama. Disagree? Make your case why UGA should have been preferred over conference champions with the same records or better. You can't even use "tougher schedule!" because 10-2 Ole Miss, 10-2 Missouri, 8-4 Tennessee and 7-6 Auburn were the best teams that UGA had beaten at that point.

This year, you have nothing to worry about. The reason? Unlike 2023, everyone else that UGA is being compared to will have fewer wins and the same number of losses. Also, because the ACC and Big 12 are so bad, the SEC will get 4 teams in.

  • benzonebenzone ✭✭✭ Junior

@SmartsTheMan What year did the committee underrank Georgia? In 2018, when they were the #3 team in the SEC (due to having lost to Bama and LSU)? Or 2023 when there were 3 teams with better records and a 4th with the same record AND a head-to-head victory over UGA? Was the committee supposed to put UGA in the playoff in 2018 based on victories over 9-3 Florida and 9-3 Kentucky? Or in 2023 thanks to beating 10-2 Ole Miss, 10-2 Missouri and 9-4 Florida? Oh, I get it. You wanted them to put UGA in the 2018 playoff because they went to the title game in 2017. And in the 2023 playoff because they won the 21-22 titles. Yeah … it doesn't work that way.

As for this year, look above. Not only is UGA the highest ranked team with 2 losses, but they are ranked ahead of several 1 loss teams (Miami, SMU, Indiana, Boise). If your gripe is Alabama and Ole Miss being ranked so high, I would love to know the teams that you perceive to be better and why.

I agree with most of your points @benzone. South Carolina has had a slightly stronger schedule than Alabama or Ole Miss. But they're all 8-3. I'm not going to quibble (for now) about South Carolina being ranked last of those three. Now, if South Carolina beats Clemson, it would be a travesty to rank them behind either Bama and Mississippi.

Alabama and Ole Miss didn't drop as far as Georgia after Ole Miss loss for two reasons:

    1. We were ranked No. 2 before going to Oxford, so we had further to fall.
    2. There aren't many teams left to put ahead of those guys. What are they going to do? Drop Ole Miss behind Tulane? It's already silly that Ole Miss is behind Arizona State.

Sorry @Wildman and @87dog: It's not a conspiracy against our favorite football team.

But I do think Georgia should be ranked ahead of Notre Dame and Penn State. Not sure why the committee is resistant to acknowledging the huge gulf between the opponents those two teams have faced and Georgia's opponents. Consider:

    • Georgia has three better wins than Notre Dame, and two much, much better losses.
    • Penn State has one better loss (slightly), but we have three way better wins.

At this point, it doesn't really matter. The good news is that destiny is back in the hands of Walker, Beck, Mykel, Smael and the rest of them. Only thing I'm upset about is Saturday's terrible tackling.

If we win next week in Athens and the following week in Atlanta , we should be at No. 2. And if we do all that and they put Miami at No. 2 … Fine! The path back to Atlanta for the championship won't be much different between No. 3 and No. 2. And those players listed above do seem to do better when they have something to prove.

Oregon, Ohio State, and Penn State would all have multiple losses if they played an SEC schedule. The MSM outlets are all biased against southern schools and slanted toward the northern schools. We all know it's true so it's time we started a southern based poll and let the yankee schools learn how it feels to be constantly slighted. There are high school teams in the south that would beat Penn State.

  • WildmanSlayerWildmanSlayer ✭✭✭ Junior

Bezone, Every one of these teams,13-0 Michigan, 13-0 Washington, 13-0 FSU, and 12-1 Big 12 champs Texas would have multiple losses in the SEC, whether you believe it or not, Georgia was a better team than every one of these Team. Not one of those teams were better than Georgia. Sometimes you have to look pass the record and put the best teams in the Playoff.

  • WildmanSlayerWildmanSlayer ✭✭✭ Junior

CandlerPark, No need for sorry, that's your opinion, I still believe a team should be ranked according to their strength of schedule, and not just their losses, even with those losses Georgia should never have been dropped 9 spots, or 5 spots in last year's poll, still believe there is a Bias.

According to the CFP committee's own rankings, Georgia had been the best team in the country all along in 2023... until they lost by 3 to a team that, according to the CFP committee's own rankings, was one of the four best in the country. There's not an argument to be made that Georgia - again, by the CFP committee's own definition - wasn't one of the very best teams in the country. So it's not about selecting the four best teams; they made that clear. Ok. But here's the problem: if you're going to make it about resumé, to such an extent that the actual quality of the team must be disregarded (as required to leave Georgia out), then there's no way to leave out undefeated ACC champion Florida State.

There was no argument, no logic, no standard for including Alabama in 2023 that would not have required also including either Georgia or Florida State. The committee couldn't make it work, so they just wedged Bama in there by pushing out both Georgia and Florida State. This, in a season where there were 3 undefeated P5 champions, and the other two happened to play each other and produce an on-field result where the home team (Bama) lost convincingly, making the final four as clear-cut as it has ever been. The committee didn't care about maintaining any semblance of consistency in their decision making, they simply included who they wanted to include. When they had to justify pushing Florida State out, it was 100% about the true quality of the team. When they had to justify pushing Georgia out, it was 100% about resumè. It was an absolute mockery of the ranking process.

They include who they want to include. And all signs are pointing to their doing it again in 2024. In the same week that Georgia lost to OM, Miami lost to G Tech. Georgia dropped further in the CFP rankings. In the same week that Georgia beat Tennessee by two touchdowns, Bama rose further in the CFP rankings for beating Mercer. As of today ESPN has projected Bama to only drop 5 spots after losing their third game - their second to a team with at least 5 losses - this year. Still on the brink of playoff contention. They lost by 21 points. When Georgia lost to ranked OM by 18 (only their second loss), they dropped 9 spots. Of course, that Bama will only drop 5 spots is not official yet. But considering the committee's nonsense up to this point, we certainly can't rule it out. And there's even less reason to think that this committee won't treat the SECCG as an elimination game for Georgia, regardless of how the game plays out. And if Georgia gets the boot, who will be the first team back in? Oh look at that, it's probably Bama.

You are right about everything you said in your 1st paragraph. Last year, in a 4 team playoff, there was no way to put SEC runner up/UGA into the playoff over undefeated BIG10 and PAC conference champions and BIG12 and SEC conference champions. AL just beat UGA and TX beat AL earlier in the year at home. Even an undefeated ACC champ was left out. UGA MAY have been the better team but UGA did not have the resume.

The committee is also interested in $$$ and eyeballs. They had every reason to pick a team from the NW, Midwest, SW and SE and that's what they did.

As for your last paragraph, I do not agree. UGA has very much to worry about with a 3rd loss.

GA beats KY by 1 and gets dropped. Penn State beats unranked Wisc by 3 i think and does NOT get dropped. Its us against the world - all the more reason to fight like a rabid DAWG!!

  • riddlevilleriddleville ✭ Freshman

Plus they dropped GA again after beating FL, mocking that win when FL has been steadily improving!
