I disagree with downplaying the importance of the GT game. If we lose then we MUST win the SEC CG or we are definitely out of the playoffs. With a win over the bugs and a close loss in the CG we still have a good chance of making the 12 team field because of several reasons: We would be the only 3 loss SEC team with 10 wins, we lost our 3rd game in the SEC tournament so we are basically the conference runner-up, and if we were to lose to Texas it could be argued that we were 1 and 1 against the Longhorns. I think the idea of not giving 100% effort against the bugs this weekend makes no logic whatsoever. Go Dawgs!!!

Agree. That said, if we lose to Tech we're out again…. but if we then WIN the SECG, we're back in!

Relatedly, I completely disagree with Will Backus' (UTenn guy, BTW) article over at CBS Sports where he says the SEC is "painfully average" and rags on the "SEC's soft scheduling"… it's rare that I resort to smack-talk, but Mr. Backus has earned it: this is one of the most simple-minded and fact-free narratives I've read about CFB in a lonnngggg time from one of the biggest networks.

College football Week 13 overreactions: The SEC has been painfully average, Indiana remains CFP lock - CBSSports.com

I say this as a UGA fan who didn't attend SEC schools (my son and several relatives are all proud dawgs), so not purely an SEC homer by history (but definitely a fact-based guy!). What the SEC has shown this year is the parity that NIL and the portal have forced. As far as non-conference foes? It is hardly the fault of the SEC that most of the ACC's, Big 10's, and Big 12's "cupcake" games are teams in their own conferences. Further, it would be insane for SEC teams to have to face the carnage that is their own league and then add 2-3 P4 games a year as well.

Seriously, if you put the top half of any of those three conferences up against Vandy (as an example; choose whoever you'd like), how do you think they'd fare? I'll leave that out there…

No idea how all this will turn out, but it's been broadly one of the most exciting CFB seasons I can ever remember… and I don't see that letting up over the next two weekends. Gonna be a ride!!! 😎

Couldn't post this on the CR article about the GT game. It is relevant to the Dawgnation podcast as both of these subjects were discussed today.

Thought about this today. IF UGA were to lose the SECCG AND STILL make it to the playoffs, UGA would probably go into the playoffs as the 12th seed as the ONLY 3 loss team to make the field. Welcome to an away game at tOSU (or OR) THEN the #1 seed (OR/TX) should UGA win in Columbus. Not a pleasant thought.

Wanted to throw some insight into all these articles about how the ref's blew the call on the AL 4th down circus catch TD by AL WR Williams.

The call was correct. If I remember my rules correctly the OT has to be covered on the end of the line by a TE or WR. AL's formation had nobody to the left of the left OT. Therefore the LOT was eligible. That made somebody (the furthest guy on the LOS) on the right side ineligible to receive. Williams. The Ref delayed throwing the flag until ineligible #2 ( as an ineligible "lineman") got illegally downfield as an "offensive lineman". So you technically had 2 "fouls" on #2 on the play. Illegally downfield and illegally touching. Surprised that the Ref on the broadcast didn't know the rules. Herbstreit ran his mouth like there was no tomorrow.

My guess would be that DeBoer wanted to throw the ball to the tackle eligible but Milroe and Williams decided to play hero ball.
