This, people, is why I hate Georgia Tech. They put forth maximum effort against the "big name football schools" UGA, FSU, Miami, Clemson etc. only to mostly lose. Their other games? They sleepwalk. The team that you saw put forth this great effort tonight? They got killed by 8-3 Syracuse, 7-4 Louisville and 5-6 Virginia Tech. Last year? They upset Wake Forest on the road then lose by 11 at home to 7-6 Bowling Green. Then they upset Miami on the road and lose at home to 7-6 Boston College. This was after opening the season losing at home to Louisville. That's right: the same Brent Key that has put together these awesome gameplans for UGA is winless against Louisville. Brent Key learned it from his coach and mentor George O'Leary. Back then Georgia Tech would pull out all the stops to beat FSU and UGA, still mostly lose, and then get beat by NC State or Maryland. These people don't realize that the way to build a program is to get your kids up week to week, beat the teams that you can beat, and then take your lumps against the more talented teams. Do this and Georgia Tech goes 9-3 this year. Instead they get to celebrate beating Miami and taking UGA to OT while sitting at home watching them in the playoff while trying to recruit more kids to come to a 7-5 team. This is why Shane Beamer is getting better results against tougher schedules at South Carolina. If they beat Clemson and Alabama loses to Auburn, they might make the playoff.

Part II: I want all the people who have been bashing Carson Beck and Mike Bobo the past 2 years to step up and apologize. You saw tonight: the problem is the receivers. Even with those 2 touchdowns that Lovett caught, he wasn't open. Beck made those plays by getting him the ball in those tight windows. Cash Jones was UGA's leading receiver with 53 yards. Lovett had the most catches, but at only his usual 9 yards per catch. UGA only successfully started moving the ball when Beck started throwing it to guys other than the WRs. The announcers even acknowledged on the last 2 plays of overtime that UGA needs to stop trying to throw it into the endzone because it wasn't working. Tech's WRs aren't exactly the NFL prospects that you generally see at Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Clemson (back when they were contenders) and Texas but if Beck and Bobo had those guys UGA is likely undefeated right now.

Apologize to Bobo!! Did you see the 1st half? But the the 1st coach Ga should fire is DB coach, Donte Williams previous of Southern Cal. I don't care how much Kirby wants talent from From Cal that guy is a total bust.

And they need to hire David Pollack in some capacity.

I'm not going to "hate Georgia Tech" because they lose games that they should perhaps win. But I will say, like other teams in their situation, once their players learn to treat EVERY team and game as if they're playing UGA, they will start to win consistently. That really is the key (no pun intended). Most teams get up for the big teams. But championship teams get up for everybody.

As for apologizing to Beck and Bobo, not gonna do that. I never really "bashed" either one, but I do think that most of the criticism directed at both this year, was warranted. Yes, UGA receivers lead the nation in drops. Some of those drops are inexcusable. But some of them, the ball wasn't thrown well. Even tonight, there were three or four throws that Beck just missed, badly. People want to tell themselves that Beck is a first-round pick, that only the drops have held him back. I beg to differ. He may get picked in the first round, but he's not first-round material. And he REALLY needs to work on his body language when things are not going well. That's part of being a first-round QB. As for Bobo, I'm not calling for his job, but it's clear to me after watching UGA vs. Tech for two years, that Buster Faulkner is just a better play caller. And Bobo is extremely stubborn. Again, I don't think he's the worst. And I'm not even saying Kirby should fire him. But, I definitely believe there are better OC's out there if Kirby had a mind to look, which we all know he doesn't.

That’s why I never leave games early. Folks around me were clearing out midway through the fourth, but we weren’t going to budge. Oh, man, was it ever worth it last night?! That game was frustrating as all getout, but the finish was pretty dang cool.
