Carson Beck shares what Texas struggles taught him, why he’s better prepared for rematch
ATHENS — Carson Beck understandably doesn’t have a lot of fond memories from the first time Georgia and Texas met.

He's the best QB in the country, and would be recognized as such if his receivers were catching all the balls. He makes good decisions, with a rare exception. O Line need to protect him. Cash Jones may be a great running back, but he needs to hold up on his blocks. Don't get me started on Truss. I have a feeling that the pro's will take him much higher than expected.
Run the ball when you see openings and throw it away when we are double teamed.
The drops have killed us and blown big play opportunities. Beck was at fault on a few of these drops, but it was mostly the fault of the receivers. To have 36 passes back in your possession or even heck, 20-25 of those passes caught instead of dropped…definitely could have changed a game's outcome.
Like @Petesdawgs said…Beck needs to run the ball when there are openings and throw it away when WRs are double teamed. Do not force throws! Let's keep your 3 game no interception streak going and simply catch the BALL!!!
@jdatl3
Beck is not the best QB in the country, though he would be a leading candidate for Heisman and the #1 pick in the draft - as Cam Ward and Shadeur Sanders aren't prototypical dropback pro style NFL QBs like Beck - if his receivers were getting open AND catching the ball. I wish Dawgnation would at some point acknowledge that the lack of separation is a much bigger problem with the WRs than the drops. Arian Smith would still be a 3rd/4th round NFL prospect with the drops, which lest we forget also plagued George Pickens and Mecole Hardman, if he were as good at getting open as those two are. I still say that Beck should be invited to New York if he has a big game in a UGA win Saturday.
The OL looks so bad because of the WRs. Defenses don't respect them, which allows them to do a lot more to stop the run and pressure Beck. Plus there is the scheme/philosophy. UGA runs a 3 WR base which means no fullback and their TEs are bad line of scrimmage blockers, basically big slot WRs. Means the OL is getting absolutely no help.
Cash Jones isn't a great or even good RB, but he has found a niche in a program that has had "issues" recruiting thanks to the Stetson Bennett IV era scheme being a horrible one for landing WRs and RBs (if a great one for recruiting TEs). The only reason why Jones isn't playing a Hunter Renfrow type role for UGA is because ideally Dillon Bell or Dominick Lovett would fill it on a team that actually has SEC caliber split end (X) and flanker (Y) receivers.
It will take playing a clean game by Beck, his WR's stepping up their game, the OL blocking, and a strong running game to win the SEC Championship. Not to mention the defense holding Texas to field goals instead of touchdowns. I don't think this is a game against a team where we fall far behind or have to win in a shootout.
Hopefully it will turn out better than last year’s sec title game. Go Dawgs! Beat the cows!
I’d like to see more of Tuggle at WR. Also like to see more of Phillips at RB but throwing the ball to him. He seems to have blazing speed. If my poor ole memory is right there was at least one time possibly two that the ball was thrown to Phillips.
The one I recall ( least I think I do I Am having serious memory issues getting a little scary !!) we were operating out of the end zone needing to get out of there and avoid a possible safety, Beck threw Phillips the ball on a very short pass and he blew out for about a 15-17 yd. gain. He was really motoring !!
He’s had a couple of snaps running the ball where he looks very fast. Kirby probably wanting him to develop better blocking skills before he’ll use him more. On the limited amount of Tuggle he seems to run decent routes and has good hands. Kirby knows best, but I say young or not if they can play decent, put Em in !! It’s time for all hands on deck !! Biggest thing is Protect The Football !! Go Dawgs !!
I'm likewise intrigued by Phillips, and don't understand why he isn't at least being fast-paced groomed for kick returns. With all due respect, Cash Jones returning our kicks is a head-scratcher. Go Dawgs!
